  • Ain't Nothing but a Hound Dog

So I took Paris to the vet by my work today and it was my first time visiting them. When I arrived at 7:30 to drop her off for the day (the appointment was at 10am but I work 30 minutes from home so it just wouldn't have been feasible to do all the traveling so they said I could leave her for the day), they told me that actually, they couldn't board a first time visitation. I stared at the lady blankly, holding onto my bouncing and energetic pup, waiting for her to tell me that I was actually supposed to take my dog to work with me. Anyway, they made an exception after I threw a mini-fit and took Paris in afterall.

I went back for the appointment at 10 and they were running 30 minutes behind. After a few needles and $150, my dog was just as healthy as she had been at 9am but oh well! Since Paris is a rescue dog and a mutt, I asked the doc if he had some idea of what Paris might actually be - whippet? hound? pittbull? human? He gave her a good look and came up with a mix between Ibizan Hound and Foxhound with some Italian Greyhound thrown in for good measure.

    Ibizan

    Fox

    Looks about right to me!!

Anyway (sorry this is getting so long!), we had to weigh her for her heartworm medication and as the nurse brought her from the kennel area, she wasn't paying attention and as soon as Paris got into the waiting room and saw me, she shot forward and knocked the nurse flat on her butt in the middle of the waiting room!! It is wrong that I thought it was hilarious?! I apologized and said something like, "Oh, she's such an excited puppy." and the nurse responded in a nasty tone saying "You need to take that dog to school! That's what the problem is!" :argue: She was so rude!!

I wanted to just look down at her on the floor and say, "Well, I can handle her. I'm not the one who got knocked onto the floor by a 40 lb puppy!!" :> But I didn't... I just apologized again. Oh, the things you wish you could say sometimes!! :^ :dog

How rude! People that work in vets offices really ought to like pets.

I don't see the Fox hound, does she have the kind of coloring? I was going to agree with the Ibizan and the Italian Greyhound.

I think Miss Molly might need a vet visit tomorrow, she's now had the runs for two days.

      Stella,

I can see the Ibizan too and maybe a bit of vizsla or lab? That icon is tiny. In any case, the lady was out of line. As Cheri said, I think people who work in vet offices should like pets. That's a big reason I love my current vet office. The people there know my dog by name and they are always happy to see her.

How does she behave, is she stubborn and all nose, is she a cuddlebutt or aloof? How old is she?
Holy cow, she's a cuddlebutt! I rescued her in hopes that she would be my guard dog because I live alone, but NOT AT ALL!! She loves people way too much. Now if a DOG tried to steal me TV.....

Anyway, she has that lovey dovey adorable hound personality and she also thinks that she is the hottest thing since sliced bread. She is constantly putting her head on my lap waiting for me to pet her or crawling around my legs or jumping on me in bed. I love her, but it gets to be a lot with a 45 pound dog! Sometimes I wish I had a teensy little fluffball, but prior to Paris I had a 115 German Sheppard!

They said no lab, but there might be some vizsla. I have no idea what that is, though, so I might look it up now. I'll have to post a better picture of my pup so yall can see her whole body. She just looks like she has a big head in my icon.

Oh yeah, and when I left, they handed me a few flyers for doggie school.

I finally took a look at one of the brochures that the vet's assitant gave me to "school" my dog, and wowzers do they offer some crazy $@*& for dogs!

          Here is an excerpt:
"Luxury Suites for Dogs: Holiday Barn offers luxury suites for discriminating canines who enjoy all of the comforting trappings of home. Each suite is tastefully decorated and features decorator wallpaper, artwork, chandeliers, color televisions, and toddler beds. Accomodations include room service twice daily and an escorted walk four times a day."

I'm thinking they might want to save the extra money and send it to the SHELTERS! Argh!

yeh, we took Molly to a snooty place like that ONCE because it was at our vets and we needed a kennel fast. The "private" areas they had were TINY and they were in them almost the entire time she was there. The place we take her now is a converted barn so the dog literally gets a horse stall but she's only in the stall at night - during the day they let them all run together in a big fenced yard. I'm amazed at what some people think is good for the dogs.

It all depends...my pit would love the barn, but my lab mix??? She'd much prefer the suite. I could see my sisters poodle in the barn, but my parents cocker....no way. I think it's good that there are more options out there for dog boarding...it used to just be a kennel...
