We're 2 1/2 miles from the hospital so it takes 5 to 10 mins. Right now he's on rotation in another hospital. His commute is 30 mins to an hour, he hates it. I think with the amount of free time he has, the last thing he wants to do is spend it driving. It's two hours less sleep, or less time for us to spend together. Time is very precious!!Student and Mom to an Oct 2013 boy

His is 10 minutes, mine is from the bedroom to the desk. :=
His has been as long as an hour and a half by subway in MS1&2, mine ranged from 40-55 minutes for the past eight years.
We both grew up with parents who commuted, at times, more than an hour each way. To me anything under an hour doesn't suck, and anything under 30 min is sweeet.Married to a hematopathologist seven years out of training.

I definitely agree with trying out the commute during a typical rush hour, but the community sounds wonderful and if you can make it work I say go for it!
We live about 5 miles from the hospital, it takes DH about 15-20 minutes. Since he takes home call now, we had to live fairly close.~Jane

I think the biggest test for you guys will be snow.
