  • I guess this puts things in perspective

Last night DS was screwing around w/ a Tennis ball. Of course I told him to stop. A few minutes later Dh & I hear a terrible crash! The tennisball was introduced to an Antique poecelain coffe pot that was way up on top of an armoir . I was so ticked!!

Today I read the following and now it doesn't seem so bad!

Picasso seller puts hole in canvas

Steve Wynn, the American casino mogul and briefly proud owner of the world’s most expensive work of art, has decided to keep and restore the Picasso painting that he accidentally damaged shortly after he sold it for a record price.

Mr Wynn had agreed to sell Picasso’s Le Rêve (The Dream) to Steven Cohen, an art collector, for $139 million (£74.7 million). But as he was showing it off in his Las Vegas office this month to guests including the screenwriter Nora Ephron, he struck the 1932 portrait of Picasso’s mistress Marie-Thérèse Walter with his right elbow, leaving a 2in tear.

“There was a terrible noise,” Ms Ephron wrote in her blog. Mr Wynn, who suffers from an eye condition that affects his peripheral vision, exclaimed: “Oh, s***. Look what I’ve done. Thank God it was me.”

The world’s most expensive painting remains Gustav Klimt’s 1907 portrait Adele Bloch-Bauer I, sold in July for $135 million. (AP)

    Whoops!

Perhaps he should move his painting out of "elbow's reach".

I just saw the Klimt (Adele Bloch-Bauer) in New York!

Yup, that definitely puts things into perspective -still upsetting, but it could be worse!

I am sooo envious you saw this! Is it still in NY???
I missed it when it was at LACMA along with 4 others stolen from the original owners. The painting itself is fascinating....and the story to recover it! Truly amazing!!!!!

Yes! It's at the Neue Galerie RIGHT NOW. If you have the chance, the gallery is free right now. They're renovating a couple of the rooms, so it seems that they feel badly for charging for admission. It's unbelievable.

I want to go back to NYC so badly!

I haven't said much about my trip, but I really feel like it rejuvenated me. My outlook on my studies/dh's residency/our marriage has changed. I no longer want to sweat the small stuff. I don't want to moan about how stressed out I am. Life is far too short to be angry and bitter, when there are so many treasures and adventures out there to be had. It's not that everything is milk and honey, but I've been living in frickin' Chicago for 5 years and have only been to the Art Institute a handful of times. I'm going to carpe diem this stage of my life, gosh darnit!!!!
