We watched it last night, and Matt was rolling on the floor. I asked him what the other residents and interns thought- he said they all thought it was funny. Matt said "The show is exaggerated, but that is to be expected it is a comedy, BUT I will say it is not far from the truth." I asked him "why do you say that?" Matt- "To some of the attendings, you are nothing more than a 'big pair of scrubs', and you get told sometimes "You won't make a good doc if, blah...." (Matt was rolling with the comment- "You won't make a good doctor if your head explodes."

As far as the surgery-medicine thing, I know that the surgery here is similar to what is portrayed- and actually the surgeons are more jerks to anesthesiologist than to medicine (there are few that are nice), at least that is the consensus that I have received from Matt.

We saw it tonight. It was ok but I thought it would be funnier. It looks like the show is trying to be like Ally McBeal.

Oh man! Matt and Jon are completely on the same wave-length! Maybe it's because they're both interns? Well, anyway, we're really looking forward to this week's episode. Jon has told me from the time he was third year that there really are "general" personality types for the different specialties so he found the surgeons being jocks thing HIGHLY realistic (and VERY hilarious). Something Jon also told me a couple of years ago, during third year, is that interns really ARE clueless - they learn a great deal during the horrors of third year med school and then forget it during the cushy years of fourth year. Jon said that a third year med student at the end of that year is about as good at procedures as an intern at the very beginning of the residency. So, the guy's cluelessness is actually truthful (and exaggerated, but that is to make it funny). I think it is a great contrast between the "drama" of ER protrayed on the tv for the general audience. And, I really like that my husband found it so funny - being able to laugh at yourself and your situation/profession is such a refreshing, admirable thing in my eyes! So far, I'm definitely hooked on the show!
