Sooooo,
As many of you know, we hate our current assignment and have been trying to figure out a way to get the Air Force to move us. Yesterday we received official word that DH has a spot in the teaching program at Wilford Hall IF he will agree to extend his committment for one year -- he would get out in 2006 rather than 2005. It is a huge compliment that he is being asked to be staff there, since he has only been out of residency for a year and a half at this point. The chairman of the OB Dept. has done all kinds of work to make this happen -- he has talked to all of the assignments people and cleared everything, so all DH has to do is say "yes" and it's a done deal.
We always swore we would never extend, but now that we are faced with that decision, the answers don't seem so clear. We all really loved San Antonio during residency. My husband is going to talk to some of the staff there (the generalists) and see what their perception of their work environment is. It is hard, after having been a resident there, to realize that the staff may actually enjoy their jobs. But the call schedule would be awesome!
Any thoughts, opinions, etc. ?????
The salary difference (by staying in an extra year) would be a loss of perhaps 50K to 80K, but so much of our income is protected from tax now that it is hard to make the comparison.
Thanks.
Sally
