  • Did my kid just say that?

DD (4yo) : "Mom, can we get a cat?"

Me : "No, we can't get a cat. Daddy's allergic."

    ** pause ... thinking **

DD : "When's daddy going to be gone so we can get a cat?"

    Several days later ...

DD : "Mom, is dad allergic to bears?"

        • As I was leaving dd to check out her kindergarten room at the new school,"Mama, the door is over there. You can leave anytime." After the recent preschool mishap, I was ready to cry with relief and yet slightly offended that she pretty much said don't let the door hit you on the way out!
Another time, we were discussing our multicultural family. She looked at me and in a very serious voice said, " it's ok, mama. I love you even if you are white." Um, thanks, I think?!

                          • Apparently I've got a lot of nerve trying to read a book other than Brown Bear Brown Bear before nap time. My 3 month old just yelled at me until I put down the offending not-brown-bear book and picked up the "right" one. Opinionated much?

                            • We were getting ready for swim lessons and I asked K2 (4yo) to sit in the car with his baby sister. He blurt out "I'm a doctor, not a babysitter!" I assure you he didn't learn this from daddy.
