    Sylvia, I've been wanting to respond to this thread (but see germ fairy thread) to tell you that listening to your gut instinct, which is what you've already done, is the right thing. You didn't fail him in any way whatsoever...you're his mother, the one who knows him and his needs better than anyone else, and you've done what was best for him.

    The library program sounds great, and maybe in a quieter setting, your little guy will be more comfortable making a friend there. This is how my DD made a good friend who comes over for regular playdates now.

    eta: ITA with what others have said about 'great' preschools. If there are other options in your area, one of them could be a better fit for your ds for next year. Kids are so different...what suits one child won't be good for another. When we first moved here, everyone raved about "THE BEST' preschool in the area, there was a huge waiting list where people would line up the night before to register...but I didn't like it at all and knew it wasn't right for DD. But I felt as though I should like it because it was in such high demand.
