Thanks everyone for the support. I've been a nervous momma through this process! ENT said she needs tubes. I kinda thought they would say that. Isn't that his job to say that? He looked at her ears and said today we have BOTH ears filled with fluid. Yay. Poor thing. he said with the fluid in her ears today, she has about a 40 decibel temporary hearing loss. He said she for sure isn't talking much (that we can understand) because she can't understand us. And that to her it feels like she's been on a airplane and needs to pop her ears. Breaks my heart she's feeling all this and I have/had no idea. Surgery is set for the Monday after her B-day.

Now I get why she's been looking at the ST like she has four heads. She can't frick frackin hear the lady most of the time! ARGHHH!

Hang on Momma. She will do fine during the surgery and all the other pieces will fall into place.

I have friend whose children got tubes and afterwards it was like NIGHT and DAY! Don't feel bad about the fluid either, my kids have both had doctor's appointments where the doc asked me if they had just gotten over an ear infection and I would say no and she would say their ears had fluid in them. But it never bothered them so I never noticed. Big hugs - you're doing the right things.

I had perpetual ear infections as a kid until after tubes. I wish I'd had them MUCH earlier than 6 y/o. I may have avoided my significant hearing loss.

LOVE tubes, they made a huge difference in our lives once dd17 had them placed at 18 months. The procedure is so fast you barely even have time to start worrying.

The surgery is really, really, really quick. When Caleb had his tonsils and adenoids removed, we spent less than 15 minutes in the waiting room. That was from the time he was still awake in the pre-op area and we were escorted out until the time I was allowed into the recovery room.

O.K. you guys have prompted me to demand my little guy's hearing gets checked out. I don't think he has had infections but it is better to rule this out.

I hope this is the answer! It seems a couple people on here know of kids that have improved after tubes... I just hope DD has the same improvement. I know she is super young but I'm already seeing signs of her interest in reading and just staring at words in books from time to time. I always feel so happy when I see her so interested in reading, but there's always that pit in my stomach. I wondered how I would ever introduce her to reading if she isn't even talking or singing nursery songs!?! Its enough to drive someone nuts. I hope we are the right road now.

Just reading this now. Hang in there, MAMA! . I hope the procedure goes well. My dh had it done close to A's age at 20 months.

Well we just got back from E's initial evaluation and there is some delay and they are recommending weekly services (they also think he might have some attention issues - which I knew). Hopefully the insurance will cover it and if not I am also contacting the local school system here to get him the eval so he can receive services for free...c'est la vie. Things could be worse.

Ahhh. I was wondering if you had a update.

Last week (I think. it's all running together) the EIP team came out to eval DD. It didn't go well. I got the big packet in the mail a couple days ago with the typed up eval and report. It took me a few days to read it. After the team was done evaluating her the child phycologist kept talking about 'red flag.' I think I went numb. I'm still crying about it a week later. I tried telling them I think these social and communication delays are due to fluid in the ears and that her surgery for tubs was scheduled soon. Even the ENT said he though she would start to improve once she could hear. They listened to me, but was still concerned. She qualified for Speech and Play Therapy. ST is going to cost me about half what it was through my insurance. i wasn't very happy with our current therapist, so I'm happy to change to someone else anyways.

Part of me wants to run to the Pediatrician and MAKE her tell me my little girl is just fine and not to worry about all these maybe 'red flags.' But deep down, I know that I've got to stand up and be the mom DD needs. I honestly feel like she is fine, but can't flippin hear due to fluid. I even talked with my two really good friends that are both educators. Both of them think it's her fluid and she will catch up. Ok. I'm going to stop before I get another headache.
