People purchase diaper liners, usually made of rice paper, to prevent the cloth (hemp, bamboo, etc) from getting totally ruined.
Most of my friends switched from a dry pail to a wet one after solids were introduced, and also purchased diaper sprayers.
FWIW, we stopped cloth diapering DS1 somewhere around 14/15 mos -- I couldn't keep up.

Niener, a number of my friends use the diaper disposable (flushable) liners for poop once they started solids. I've seen them in action and theu really do seem to help!

Also, my friend's daughter is 2.5 and still wearing prefolds and covers. She says the snappis really hold the prefold in place well and, if it does shift somehow, her daughter usually tells her her diaper feels weird. I don't know if that would work for all kids but that's the experience I've seen.

Spent a good amount of time looking at prefolds and covers last night. Also watched a decent number of videos on flats, too. I'm a little nervous DH or the day care may think it's too complicated but I do really like the cost effectiveness and the simplicity of washing. I never realized GMD prefolds were so popular! All my friends use AIOs or pockets.

I did prefolds with a cover. And I used the select-a-size Viva paper towels as a liner. I didn't flush them because I was on a rural septic system.

Don't go with flats. Even if you're fine with it, your DH won't be. We did prefolds the whole time until we moved to undies/pull ups for potty training when my kids were between 2 and 3 years old. It worked fine, but we changed up the fold we used when they started solids.

I only did flats the two weeks at home because he was so little and the prefolds were too bulky. I then used them for spit up cloths, etc. now I use them as kitchen towels.

LM would you mind sharing which fold you used when you switched? It seems like the two most popular ones (that I've seen anyway) are the simple trifold flared in the back and the one where you twist in the middle.

I did jelly roll fold for newborn - it contained the runny poops better. Then I switched to Angel fold when they were bigger to double up absorption when they peed. DS was a crazy heavy wetter, and I needed more cloth there. I eventually went to doublers and then disposables when I was having to change him every 1.5 hours and still having leaks!

The diaper stash I'm selling. It includes:

                  5 Bum Genius XS AIO'S
3 Thirsties size one (6-18lbs) covers
2 Bum Genius pockets with small and large microfiber inserts. I think they're 8 - 35lbs.
                  2 Flips covers. I think they're 8 -25lbs.
                  12 Bumkins cotton prefolds
                  4 snaps
                  Full roll of liners

I know you were interested DrB so I wanted to put them here before putting them on ebay.

ETA - No staining on anything and 90% have never been worn.

Forgot to post to say THANK YOU, MRS C! I got them all safe and sound.

Also, my addiction is a real problem. I think I'm limiting myself to a few more aio and some GMD prefolds and then cutting myself off until she is here. I spend WAY too much time looking at co ops and watching reviews on YouTube. I need to back away from the fluff!
