Holy moly, I have heard its an amazing school but I imagine a fair number of kids are burnt out by the time they hit college. Do they have extracurriculars or is it mainly academic?

They do! Track, basketball, volleyball. No football or baseball though because it's on the middle of downtown.

Anyone see that movie "Race to Nowhere". I have only seen the trailer, but it might be good food for thought for this discussion.

There was a showing here and it was well received by parents. OF course, I missed it. I'd love to see it if it's available online. Maybe we could do a movie discussion afterwards if it is....

And not only do they rank high schools, one of the criteria is AP tests taken. Not passed, taken. So some enterprising schools have figured that out and forced all students to take them. Highland Park ISD in Dallas does this, though admittedly they have excellent academics anyway.

There are so many AP classes offered... Dd wanted to take AP studio art but I convinced her to wait til next year and just take drawing... Who knows what they require you to do. But yeah, AP classes abound and are usually filled to capacity.
