I haven't read all of this, but Crazy 8 and The Children's Place go to size 14.

My oldest is a 14 and that is where we shop.

You guys are scaring me with your 8/9/10 yr olds wearing 12s and 14s. My 8yo DD is as tall as her 10yo brother...do I need to brace myself?! I have only the vaguest recollections of when I hit my growth spurt, but I'm pretty sure I was nearly my full height by 6th grade. Gah. She herself can't wait to get taller and grow boobs. She's convinced herself that she's stage 2 (or whatever AG book designation it was). Sorry, honey, not even mosquito bites yet.

BonBon- my 14 year old still fits in the kids dept. Heck, so does my 15.5 year old. They shop juniors and petites instead.

My daughter went from kid to woman in 6th and 7th grade. It's a pretty stunning transformation in a short amount of time. I sure this is why middle school sucks so much for girls. I think by junior year of high school, they are all "done" in terms of that.

I'll be your evil twin, Kelly. I LOVE the white long dress you picked. So timeless and feminine. I could take some gorgeous black and white photos with a little girl in a dress like that!

The go-to around here are the Lilly Pulitzer girls shifts. They're classy, deliciously bright and look fabulous on your family's yacht at Martha's vineyards. I'm a sucker for American Prep. I love Polo, although we're having a tricky time with their sizes at this same stage (size 10). My DD10 is short and the dresses are falling long. Honestly, DD10 only has about three outfits right now. Everyday clothes are from crazy 8. I just can't find anything that fits her...period.

Thanks for all the support. I know that I've overthought it a bit. Sometimes when we have these kid issue conversations, it feels like our parenting is on the line. I know that everything from pierced ears to mature video games to ages for dating have created some debates on this board. Really so much of this is just gut instinct as to what feels right at the right time.

I hope I haven't awakened the karma Gods. I really get that so much of this isn't up to us.

If she DOES decide to go goth, I truly pray that I have the grace to help her shave her head and pick out the perfect shade of black if that is what she determines she needs to do. Until she gets to the place where she is leading the charge for shopping, I honestly feel let down by retailers. That is all. Thanks so much for the polite and supportive conversation on this issue.

FYI, my very conservative and classic daughter is tinkering with steampunk. She gasps with glee for buckled up boots (got a pair for Christmas) and is surfing goggles and corsets online .....

I guess there could be worse style icons than Helena Bonham Carter. At least belly shirts are not at all Victorian.

Heh. I highly recommend it for anyone a fan of steampunk in general. It's by the same person who does cakewrecks, but it's more personal, and she LOVES steampunk, so a lot of the entries involve it in some way or other. She's also a huge star wars and disney fan, and has a "lady vadore" costume she's worn to cons (steampunk female darth vader costume).

I can't say I'd go for steam punk clothing, but my sister and I love steampunk jewelry and you could almost describe my decorating style as somewhat steampunk. Think vintage industrial.

                              Try:

                              And

I also love crew cuts and mini Boden and the Boden older girl (Johnny? I think?)

They are all pricey at full price, but they all have great sales (unlike Chasing Fireflies).
