Oh holy hell. I started ripping the wallpaper down only to find this:

Yes, that's right another layer of plaid wallpaper under the first.

So the flower is the top and the plaid is underneath? Is there anything under that?

There is a blue plaid on the walls currently, with coordinating blue plaid and daisy pattern on the ceiling. Underneath the blue on the walls is a cream and red plaid. I just hope there is nothing under that layer. I might just cry.

There is no actual wall underneath, it's just a paper mache of wallpaper and paste.

The wall under that is bright yellow. Like what a Pre-schooler uses to color the sun, yellow.

                      Hijacking this thread.

Our dining room has an ugly chair rail and some kinda ugly wallpaper under it. Since I don't like either and want to hang some shelving that needs to be on a flat wall I'm taking it down.

I pryed the trim off two walls and a corner. It came off pretty easily with a mini crow bar, hammer and scoring the paint/wallpaper away from it. There is a little damage to the wall but nothing awful that can't be fixed.

There appears to be three layers of wall paper. The top is a plasticky textured paper that seems to peel off easy since its thick and rigid. Next there is some pink check and the some ugly floral. I'm thinking ill just rip the plastic stuff off but then what is the best way to get the subsequent layers without damaging the underlying plaster/drywall?

                      Here are some pics.

By the way who paints their dining room army green?

After getting the thick crap off, score the wallpaper VERY well and apply DIF gel remover. Follow the directions and it should loosen that wallpaper up enough so that it comes off. I usually use a large putty knife to help peel the shit off. You may need to score and apply the DIF remover to each layer.

So I got a bit zealous with the peeling. I was able to peel all layers down to the last backing layer of paper on one wall. In some spots all the way to the wall where there is some bumpy glue residue. Can I use the diff gel on the backing paper and the glue residue to clear it all off? Below are some more pics.

Yup, the DIF will soften it right up. Go you!

Oh, do I need to protect the wood trim with tape and drop cloths? How messy is this task? Any other tips? This is my first time taking off wallpaper.

Removing wallpaper is crazy messy, but the DIF shouldn't cause any damage to woodwork.
