I've been reading random things lately about various supplements and their efficacy. I'm *really* bad about taking daily pills (thanking the universe that my children and I have thus far avoided a condition where that is actually a requirement), so I don't want to have 10 different things to take.

If you're willing to share ...

What, if any, supplements do you take? (I'm thinking Fish Oil, Vitamin B12, etc.)

Why? (what are they supposed to address/prevent)

    Have you noticed a difference?

We have such an opinionated group and so many of you have surely done research. I'd love to learn from you (and avoid such research myself ) .

    Thanks!

So funny, I was just about to post this!
    I take:
    Prenatal vitamin- because it rocks!
    Fish oil for omega 3
    cinnamon for metabolism
green tea because I hate tea
vitamin D to make sure I'm not defficient

I do feel good when I take my supplements.

I've taken a multivitamin for most of my life except for a flaky phase during college and when I was preggers and too sick to take them -- heck of a time to fall off the wagon. I'm also bad about keeping a routine so I try to tell myself that the 10 minutes in the evening when I wash my face and brush my face are very important "me" time. I take my vitamin then.

I take prenatal vitamins and the fish oil when I remember. It's goung to sound strange but I notice that I don't gain weight as quickly when I'm taking my vitamins.

Flax Seed Oil because supposedly it contains omega-6 and omega-9 essential fatty acids, B vitamins, potassium, lecithin, magnesium, fiber, protein, and zinc and also provides approximately 50% more omega-3 oils than what you could get from taking fish oil, minus that horrible "fishy" after taste...which would make me gag.
Coconut water two 8 oz to get some potassium plus it's yummy
Oh - and a multi vitamin - just started that one

I'm on a prescription supplement of B6, B12, and folic acid, a prenatal, and fish oil. As soon as I started taking them, I got nails that could slash cardboard, thick, shiny hair, and very expensive looking pee.

I notice a difference in my energy level depending whether I'm taking the prenatal with iron or the one without.

I take a just-in-case prenatal and a B vitamin complex. My eyes twitch when I get really stressed and B12 seems to help with that. I did take a Vitamin C tablet all last winter to boost my immune system--even though I sort of doubt it single-handedly stopped me from getting sick. In reality--it was a tasty vitamin and that was a large part of the reason I kept taking it!

I wish I had taken more in the two months before the wedding--I had irregular heart beats, eye twitching, and horribly peeling nails. Probably could have used the boost then.

I take a mild iron supplement (regular one gives me horrible nausea) and calcium w/vitamin D. I notice a HUGE difference in energy level if I miss a day that I never experience with regular multivitamins.

I am a big flaxseed fan. I also sprinkle the stuff on my cereal. TJs has a yummy blueberry one. BUT I can never eat enough salmon or flaxseed to get a weekly consistent amount. So, I asked local health food store guru about some fish oil brand that supposedly tasted like strawberry to see if I could tolerate it and she suggested to try flaxseed instead. Nails and skin look much better...but I guess fish could have done that except for the fact that I hated to take them and was never consistent.

I guess I'm the only one who has never tasted the yucky fish taste after fish oil. I have however burped up puffs of cinnamon. Now that was weird.

I have my patients freeze the fish oil capsules. This usually prevents the fishy aftertaste. Just don't take it with a hot beverage that will start to dissolve it too soon.
