Heidi, 9 lbs is great! The new teacher at bar class is so much fun and the hour practically flew by. Well, I did take a well timed bathroom break when we did stuff that I'd rather skip

I am not in the weight loss category, but fitness has been lacking and it is showing.
Between the first trimester and moving/selling the house, I feel very out of shape.
In one week, we will be in the new location, though. I picked a gym I like, with a wide variety/full schedule of different classes to keep the boredom away and encourage muscle confusion. I'm sure I'll need some modifications here and there as this progresses, but I'm excited to try something new.
I also bought a racer back maternity swimsuit ahead of time, that has a very long top that's not flowy (heavy ruching).
This time, outgrowing my TYR will not be a problem for lap swimming.

So I'm joining y'all, a couple months late. I had some blood work done a couple of weeks ago and while everything was fine and in normal ranges, my cholesterol was higher than I would have liked, though still within in a normal range. I knew it was because I have been eating like total shit and comforting myself through the subfreezing temps from earlier this year and just generally being in a bad wintery mood. I had a come to jesus talk with myself and I've got to get back in track.
I've been aspiring to be a runner for a few years now. I will go long periods of time doing interval training, be really proud of myself, make progress, feel awesome, and as a result - make good food choices and generally stay happy and motivated. Then...something happens and it all goes to shit. I'm tired of not holding myself accountable. I figure because I'm not really failing anyone but myself by abandoning my fitness goals, then who the hell cares. But I want to achieve a fitness goal this time. Along with that comes making better food choices and eating in moderation - I'll never succeed in a scenario in which I deprive myself completely. I'm starting out reasonably (eating lots of green things and fruit smoothies and low cal snacks...but tomorrow I intend to enjoy a dinner out with DH and I won't be ordering a salad). I set an attainable gym goal this week that I've already completed. Tonight my goal is to do a 20 min workout DVD.
What are the pros/cons of FitBit Flex/One versus Jawbone Up? I read through the thread about both here, and saw that most people had just gotten one or were thinking about it. Which do you have and why? I am starting to research both and compare - I kinda hate to spend the $ on one right now, but I think it would really help motivate me and would be a super easy sell to DH who is so supportive of anything that would help me feel like I could succeed - and damn, I actually think the Jawbone Up is kind of cute, as far as fitness bands go...but I think the capability of the Fitbit Flex or One might be better...your opinions?Last edited by WolfpackWife; 02-27-2014, 02:47 PM.Wife, support system, and partner-in-crime to PGY-3 (IM) and spoiler of our 11 y/o yellow lab

I will write more later, but I think I went with the UP24 because I thought it was cuter. But I actually don't mind the look if the new fitbits. I think for me the most critical thing is that my family members also have the jawbone. It's nice to have other people motivating you!
I also downloaded the FitBit app - it will actually work with your phone )depending on phone type). I would maybe download the apps and decide which setup you like better?
Honestly they are so similar - I don't think either is a bad choice.
Oh - but if you don't have an iPhone 5 or newer, you may have issues with the UP24. And i don't think it syncs with android phones yet either - just so you know. My sisters BF had just bought a new samsung, and now jus band only syncs with his iPad.

Next week I start something again. Just walking with N in the stroller. But something! On the bright side 19 of the 33 lbs I gained during pregnancy are gone. But it is so easy to eat like crap when the weight falls off no matter what because it isn't "real" weight. I'll be kicking myself when it gets down to the last few lbs and beyond (I want to lose at least 30 below my starting preggo weight)Married to a newly minted Pediatric Rad, momma to a sweet girl and a bunch of (mostly) cute boy monsters.

Heidi if it makes you feel better, I struggle to get to 10K. It takes conscious effort. The only way I can do it is if I take the dogs for a 2 mile walk and then either spend 30-45 min on the machines at the gym or do a shit ton of house work. Getting steps just isn't built in to the southern lifestyle the way it is in the northeast or other big cities. Not to say you couldn't go less than 1K steps in NYC in a day because of course you could, but it'd be much harder than going 1K steps where I live. Very few things are within walking distance (<2 miles) and the things that are, the only way to get there is via a major highway with no sidewalks.Wife of a surgical fellow; Mom to a busy toddler girl and 5 furballs (2 cats, 3 dogs)

And I lived in NYC for a long time. It is easy to get steps in, but you can also have everything delivered - so pretty easy to walk less than 100 steps on a lazy day!

I finally saw the scale dip down a bit today. I have pretty huge fluctuations, so hopefully I can keep it from creeping back up (it's only like 4lbs, but I've been stuck higher for weeks). Woke up feeling super sluggish and absolutely starving - so hopefully I don't blow it!

Assuming in not making that up, does it record steps when you push a stroller? My up band's idle alert occasionally goes off while I'm grocery shopping - I assume because I'm not swinging my arm. It annoys me.

I'm always surprised how even a week of vacation / out of normal workout regime can make it so hard to get back into the grind. I have yet to do a HIIT workout this week. Today I just did 30 minutes on the bike trainer and then was so sick of being inside decided to take a walk. Big mistake. I walked on the road and then down to the lake. 2 miles home against the wind and now my face feels like I just spent all day in the Florida sun. sigh.

Okay, starting at the gym again. I've seriously slacked. Also, officially kicking the nasty ice cream habit I've picked up (slow churn so not HORRIBLE, but I don't need the extra sugar and it makes staying on track harder for me).
Also going to not weigh myself for a bit...it's too easy to get discouraged when I don't rapidly lose weight (which I just don't at this weight...I always get stuck here so I'm going to focus less on the number and more on health, appearance and clothes fit).
