A lot of TV channels have an iPad apps to watch different shows as well! Ironically I really enjoy watching food network while I am on the treadmill-but more of the travel related shows not really cooking shows.

I do better when I set a distance goal for myself versus a time goal. That way if I want to get off sooner I need to move faster!

You can also rip DVDs that you on to iTunes and then watch them through home sharing on your iPad! (I am assuming that you have an iPad-but I have no idea if you actually do!)

We use a program called "Handbrake". I do the simple burn, so it's just the feature, no previews, no menus, no CC. I burn it to my desktop and then drag it into iTunes. Then you can either add it to the iPad manually (so it's accessible even when you're not at home) or access it through Home Sharing (all through the Video app)

I can't do the same thing day after day. I always have and it's been a stumbling block. This time I've been forced to vary it and I'm not doing the same thing every day. I agree with going to the gym to walk even if it's only ten minutes. Getting there and moving, even a little, will lead to more movement.

I hear ya on the fat front regarding not wanting to exercise because it's so difficult at first.

One of the reasons I liked the bike for more than just the ease on my joints being this weight was because I had a breakthrough on it after two consecutive weeks of exercise.

I started with a big, wide, padded seat to be comfortable and did deal with some discomfort at first but eventually I built up strength and lost some weight and found I could go further for longer and at a faster pace. I'd gone from 30 minutes a day to 45 minutes a day in two weeks and it felt good.

My Grandma does 45 minutes a day on her stationary bicycle for her heart, so you can imagine the boost I had when I was no longer eating my Grandma's dust. I started walking around Walmart with the confidence of a fit soccer Mom. Even though I knew I still had a ways to go to lose the fat I was already feeling stronger.

Everyday I check our little gym to see if the bicycle is fixed yet and if the out of order sign is gone, but it's still there and I'm starting to feel frustrated. I'm ready to work on my goals again and I need that bicycle to strengthen my knee. The only other thing I can do is use the swimming pool perhaps.

So I made that suggestion to my husband and he thought I'd lost my mind. I said one of the advantages of living here is it's 60 degrees outside in the winter and our swimming pool is 24/7 and heated. I told him that until the bike is fixed maybe I can swim freestyle in the pool for low impact exercise for my knee but I need a swimsuit. Finally he said sure so we're going to go get an aquatic fitness swimsuit that's sort of like a light wetsuit so I can start soon. I think I'll also go for a swim cap and swim goggles.

It's been so long since I've practiced swimming I feel like it will be awkward because I've forgotten how. I had to watch Youtube videos to refresh myself on how to swim laps and do flip-turns. I think I'll also borrow his great big comfortable bath robe when going to and from the pool. The pool and gym is right outside our door so it's convenient. The locals may think I'm mad swimming in the heated pool in the winter here but 60 degrees outside is like a normal day for us in the Pacific Northwest.

The fridge and pantry are getting bare and we're getting creative with our meals by eating up everything, so we're cleaned out for the great fresh start with our next grocery store visit.

I went to sleep for a few hours and woke up to a new exercise bike. He said he got it practically brand new off of Craigslist. Someone bought it around Christmas, put it together, rode it twice, and then left it in their garage and didn't want it anymore.

I love it! I love it! I love it! My last one was called Queen Letizia for inspiration and this new one I have dubbed the Duchess K.

Week 3 of 10 miles running gone well even with an extra mountain walk thrown in.

Gutted when I got delivered a new cycling jacket that didn't fit my chest. Dang those skinny cyclists.....

5 weeks until I lead a cycling holiday for beginners in Mallorca for 8 folk. 10 miles coffee..... 10 miles lunch..... 10 miles cake,...... 10 miles back to hotel!

                          Awesome, Cinderella!

                          Dave, cycling holiday sounds great!

I've been sticking with the Y but need to wean myself of caramel macchiatos at Starbucks.

Those are one of my favorites at Starbucks but I've been sticking to home brew. For me, I need to cut out the coca cola classic so I'm going cold turkey on it.

I started my program today. We bought fresh fruit and veggies last night, stuff to make salads, some lean meats and a big bag of rice. I logged 20 minutes on the Duchess K this morning while my husband was getting ready for work. He'd been asking me if I'd tried the new bike so I let him see me use it so he had no doubts.

It's a start for Day 1. I felt I could go longer but it's been a few weeks so I want to build up my fitness again, especially with my knee complaints.

It's a much better fit on me than my last stationary bike. My last one felt almost too big for me. I had to wear the thick soled shoes with Queen Letizia to reach the peddles and that's on the lowest adjusted seat setting. Still I persevered with what we had and it made me stronger. The Duchess seems made for me and is a real pleasure.

Dave, the cycling holiday sounds wonderful! Now that's the way to do it. There's a word for it even but it doesn't come to my mind at the moment. Something like fitness tourism. I always see these organized fun runs to do like The Color Run, The Zombie Run, The Mud Run, The Easter Island Marathon and I'd like to try some of those.

Lately I've been daydreaming about taking bicycling tours around new places while on vacation with my husband to see the sites and exercise. Now to convince my husband to start exercising with me. Maybe that will be easier after he sees me having some success with my goals. 'Focus on me first.'

I'll be adding a 3rd day in my routine in about a week, which will put me at 3x week (MWF). I'm hesitant to do drastic calorie counting, and am holding strong with no grain, no sugar.

I'm still a little fearful that my abdomen will be forever lopsided now (is that even a thing?), pulling to the left. I'm wondering what it will look like once my belly area returns to better days.

I've been working out once a week with a body builder. It's been awesome!

Princess Fiona, have you thought about HIIT for your cardio? I did a 10 minute routine that was awesome (it actually took 16 minutes). High Intensity Interval Training. Walk/jog a 3 minute warm up. Then do 20-40 seconds of super high intensity, then 40-20 seconds of low rest type intensity, repeat 10 times. Then do a 3 minute cool down. I did a 30-30 split. Beginner said 20-40, and advanced 40-20. And I did it on the elliptical, but it recommend treadmill, elliptical or bike. The buzz about HIIT is that studies show it causes you to burn more calories the rest of the day than straight cardio. During the actual exercise, you burn less than steady state cardio. But it causes you to burn more the rest of the day that you burn twice as many calories as steady state. I like it because I can shorten my workout. I get bored after about 20 minutes on a treadmill or running or on a bike. Put me in a group class and I can go 2 hours. But solo? Bor-ing!

Anyway, I'm down 7 pounds since the beginning of the year and I can see definition back in my arms.
