  • Isn't it a great feeling to notice improvement in your times?! Those were definitely some fast intervals! And your weather is worse than mine, so I guess I'm going to have stop whining about how it was too cold to run yesterday (45F, so about 7C, with a light drizzle but some strong south winds) and I could only go for a walk. I'll get my run in this morning for sure, before the rain returns.

    • I ran 30 minutes straight yesterday! Starting to feel stronger. But after my run, while I was stretching, I had an unusually prolonged bout of tachycardia. Today I just walked for 45 minutes, but tomorrow I think I will try to do a long run...run for a whole 45-60 minutes, but as slow as I can manage and still call it jogging.

That doesn't sound good. Was it just that the heart rate didn't come down from the exercising rate as quickly as usual, or was there a distinct doubling of the rate?

        • I get little bouts now and again of what hubby thinks is SVT. They usually just feel like a momentary flutter. But this is the second time I've had one that lasted more than a couple of minutes. Doubling sounds about right, I was totally cooled down from my run and the flutters went up to probably 200 bpm. He's not particularly concerned, although he's been on my case to get an EKG since I had the first episode ten years ago. I dunno. Probably not going to worry unless it happens again soon. But I'll put it in my bullet journal so I have the reference point.

          • Sounds good, and yeah, sounds like what I had (PSVT), which over several years gradually got to the point where episodes were lasting 20+ minutes; after two of those, they put me on a beta blocker, which I didn't like the side effects of, so they did an ablation, which was easy peasy (caths in both femoral and one neck vein, general anesthesia, home the same day as the procedure, once the wounds closed up; no episodes since). Not sure an EKG shows anything when it's not actually happening, and they never got one of mine happening, because as soon as they put a BP cuff on me, it would stop, and they always did that before doing an EKG. DH got a pulse-ox on me during one, though, so at least got the pulse reading of 200+ witnessed. I think my ekgs only ever showed PVCs.

            • My pal who was due to run in Berlin with us has developed AF. He's having an ablation the day before we fly. He's very nervous and just sent me a YouTube link he's been watching and now I'm nervous for him!

              • That happened to me at the gym a few weeks ago. I don't have anything to add, but it's good to know the steps y'all have taken/considered!

                • Ate like crazy yesterday (donuts, pizza, hibachi, wine), but I also had a good run. 6 miles at 9'44"/mile. Didn't help - I was up 3 lbs this morning. Oops... I used up all my weekly weight watchers points, though, so the next few days will have to be much lower calorie. Hope I can pull it off. I've been hovering at about 5 lbs to my goal since December (2 lbs away now, but I keep yo-yo-ing). I need to just buckle down and lose it, then go into maintenance, which is pretty much what I'm doing now.

                  • I swear I feel like heavy workouts cause my muscles to hold water. I'm always up a couple of pounds after a long run, but it shifts back again! Trends over time, not single data points…

I blame Girl Scout Cookie season for my eating habits lately. "Feeling snacky? How about a sleeve of Samoas? While you're at it, a whole bag of chips seems like a nice way to round off the 1:30pm post-lunch meal…" I'm doing better today!

                    • My muscles hold a lot of water? or something after a heavy lifting day. I'm always heavier after leg day and my pants are always tighter. I used to get frustrated but now I expect it. The tight shirt sleeves are still startling but overall that's my goal right? At least that's what I have to keep reminding myself.

Oh and I'm always heavier after a big eating day.....I attribute part of it to the food still in my GI tract and the salt bloat. Because my binge days usually involve salty carbs like pizza.

                      • Yeah, I definitely expect to be down tomorrow. A combination of a long run and eating everything carb-y and salty I set my eyes on was a recipe for gain. I've got until Wednesday (weigh in day) to get back to normal, though.

We've started doing Blue Apron, and it's helped by making us eat healthy foods at home a lot more often. It's been great for staying on track for supper, which is where I usually go over my points. I eat the same thing for breakfast and lunch most weekdays.

                        • DD7 came home sick from school just as I was ready to go for my walk, so no workout for me today. D'oh. Hubby is working tomorrow so if she is still sick there will be no run for me then either. We shall see!

                            • I'm still on my 5 days a week kick. I upped my mileage almost 2 weeks ago and am now running 4 miles at a time. Stroller time is averaging 11:15-11:30 per mile with the new distance, but I'm sure I'll start to shave time soon.

My local HIIT:resistance training group is slowly dying, despite membership dues. People are paying, they just aren't attending. Sometimes, it's just me and one other person besides the instructor, and I'm used to large groups from past places. *sigh* It's just not catching on here with the demographic we have.

Hoping we can get into a new location before it just dies.

                              • Well, DD says she's going to school today, so I plan to squeeze my run in early in case she needs to come home when her ibuprofen wears off. I think I will aim for 10-15 minutes of walking and 30 minutes of running.

Thirteen, I thought of you and the other stroller runners during my long run last week. There was intense wind, probably 20-30 mph sustained and 40+ mph gusts, during half of my route, so I was leaning into the wind and struggling against it -- I thought, "This is what stroller running is like!"
