There is one good thing, we can beat the crap out of Oregon every year. Ever since our loss that was fixed, i refuse to acknowledge them as a state.
Bwahaha--that's exactly what I said on Facebook!

I know the teams are called the Huskies, and I know from growing up in Seattle with a sports-watching dad that the Huskies football team used to go to the Rose Bowl a lot when I was growing up...but I couldn't tell you what conference they're in, and I really don't see how it (whatever it is) could affect the value of my EE degree. Enlighten me?
Big sports programs bring in loads of money and get the name of the school out there. Not to mention, if you are looking for a job regionally, it can be a big help...at least that's what I've found in the OU/TX sphere of it all.

Poky - The dawgs (Huskies) are in the Pac-10. As are their Apple Cup adversaries, the WSU Cougs. (Fellow former Washingtonian, here.)

Really, it is all about money. Which is why no matter how many rumors I hear about Notre Dame joining a conference, I'm pretty sure hell will freeze over before ND gives up their ridiculously lucrative national TV contract in favor of sharing the dough and spotlight in a conference.

Sorry, in my groggy state I made it sound like ND was somehow a part of the Big-12 issue. They're obviously not, I was just using them as an example of why teams stay or move conferences (ie, chasing the moolah).

Oh, I would be super pissed if the Pac-10 got two BCS bids. The BCS is crap anyway, but that's just asinine. Pac-16? Crazy.

Oh, and why doesn't the Big 12 consider adding teams instead of dissolving? Utah, TCU, and Boise State might be good candidates... especially Utah.

My understanding is that you have to have, I think 6 teams, that have been together for at least six years to be a conference. So if to many teams leave the Big 12 the conference will die too.

I certainly hope the state of the athletics program doesn't diminish the value of a degree, as mine is about to lose bowl eligibility for the next two years and 20 football scholarships. Idiots.

I was hoping the Pac-10 would grab Colorado and Utah. I could do without Texas.

Just hoping there aren't 4 super conferences out of all this. Then, it will be even worse for the mid-majors.

I hope it doesn't boil down to the Pac-16, Big 10 (11?), SEC and ACC. It will make it more difficult for the mid-majors to generate television revenue and to get attention for bowl games. I really hope the outcome of all this shifting is NOT 4 super conferences, but the death of the BCS system. Heidi, I hate the BCS just as much as you do - my team went 10-2 in 2006 and was gifted the Texas Bowl. Do I think we deserved a BCS game? No, but I think we deserved something a little bit better (Cotton, Gator, etc.) - bowl games should not be based on conference tie-ins. So, I would like to see the BCS fade away and a national championship arise out of all this.

Yeah, I really liked the symmetry of Colorado and Utah though. Curious to see how this all pans out, at any rate.

And have I mentioned how irritated I am with USC? Really irritated with USC.

Wow - just wow, an announcement from CU but not NU - what the HELL is going on?

Osborne was quoted today as saying the NU won't be making any statements until its definite - WHAT?
