Aww, I agree, it'll dry out soon and kudos to you for taking on something of that magnitude! And yes, I can totally see myself doing the same thing except I'd have broken a finger or leg or something on top of it all because I'm just that clumsy

Today, I am exhausted, because yesterday, I DID IT!!! Thanks for your support, everyone. You were right - it wasn't as terrible as I had feared! The towels, miraculously, were fine after going through the washer on the heavy cycle, and after I left the porch windows open all day, it had dried by evening. I gave myself a challenge: how much can I accomplish in one day with one hundred dollars? I cleaned the porch, cleared the stuff out of the yard so it could be mowed, and bought a folding card table; old-but-funky chairs from the thrift store; a "tablecloth" that's actually a fabric shower curtain (SHHH!) but fit the table well and matches the rugs; a colorful, silky cloth for a centerpiece; and some votive candles. I had my partner call me when she was a certain distance from home so I could have everything ready to surprise her when she came in. I lit all the candles and put a little vase of black-eyed susans from our "garden" (mess of weeds) in the center of the table, along with two glasses of ginger lemonade. She came through the porch door and was SOOOOO surprised and happy. We ate dinner out there - YES, I even COOKED! Hamburgers with cheese, portobello mushrooms, and garlic mayonnaise; and roasted potatoes with rosemary.
Wow, what a busy day. Like I told my partner, the porch was far from ideal/what we had in mind - no wall-to-wall floor covering, and the furniture was just cheap stuff I picked up on a whim - but for a temporary set up for the last couple weeks of summer, it'll do! Yesterday I was so busy with that project that I did no cleaning/dishes/house stuff, and pretty much neglected the dog... so today my goal is to bring the Beagle on a long walk in the woods... but maybe AFTER an Epsom salt bath and a nap. I'm so tired, not only from yesterday's craziness, but from being woken up several times by my partner's pager - she was on call overnight. Sigh!

Liisi, it sounds like it turned out wonderfully! The best I did yesterday was clean the stove, and even that was kinda half-assed...
Phoebe, do you ever get migraines related to allergies? In my area the weed pollen and mold spores are crazy high right now, and I spent a good part of last week with a migraine.
Today, I'm just happy it's Friday and a long holiday weekend! I think I'm going to make some grain-free "granola" (http://foothillhomecompanion.blogspo...e-granola.html) and maybe go on a hike this weekend.Wife of PGY-4 (of 6), cat herder, and mom to a sassy-pants four-nager.

Today, I did not get a nap. I tried napping starting at 7:30, AM but was kept up by voices out the window - my landlord and his kid came over at 7:50 AM to weed the garden. So, I took the Beagle for a walk for 45 minutes, then tried again at 10 AM to nap. I lay in bed for about 45 mins and then was woken up by the Public Works Dept. employees DRILLING around a manhole RIGHT next to our mailbox, i.e. right below our bedroom window.
I'm still going to attempt bringing the Beagle on a long walk in the woods, but may need a second mug of coffee first...
