  • Today I took the kids to the mall and used a roll of quarters (gift from my mom for DS's birthday) on all the ride-on toys. They had a blast! (Until we had to leave at the end when DS was tired and hungry. You can guess how that ended!)

    • Today we finally got DH's car from the shop. It's all fixed. We still have to fix the driver side window, but we're happy.

        • Today, after having turned two bathrooms into sets from Ghostbusters yesterday, K1 asked me "Mommy, are we going to have fun today?" I told him that depended entirely on his behaviour and reminded him that spending nearly all day in time out with an angry mommy was not fun yesterday. So, he was extra good today (until Daddy came home, then he was horrible). We went to the park with his BFF and spent nearly the whole day playing outside. The weather was so glorious that he asked me if I'd lay a blanket in the backyard for naptime. I was tempted but thought better of it when I considered what would happen if I fell asleep and he escaped our yard. Maybe I should have done it. It would have been awesome but he's just so unpredictable that I was afraid to chance it.

            • Today I am hell-bent on going to a popular dessert cafe here and snagging a giant piece of their salted chocolate caramel cake to snack on through the weekend (their $6 pieces of cake are six layers high, about 8 inches tall, and weigh what must be over a pound. It's just not even right). I will not be stopped.

                • Today....I am counting down the days/posts when I am eligible to get into the private forums because oh lord, I need some perspective on how medical school has (at times, not as a whole) really, REALLY changed my relationship. I loooong for the newlywed, blissful days of last summer...I am hating this stupid career decision today.

Beyond grateful there is a community of people who understand. I now balk when I see movies or shows where the "catch" is a doctor and everyone fawns over that fact and thinks the girl is "so lucky". I mean, yeah, but also? No. At least sometimes, it's a BIG F-ING NO.

                      • just remember to send a message to an admin once you hit the requisite posts because gaining access to the private forums isn't automatic, someone has to go in and do it for you.

                          • Today, I'm going to attempt to take the boys to parents as teachers class and to the library again. . . provided that they don't set the house on fire or kill each other. Lately, seems like every Wednesday, just as we are walking out the door, they do something incredibly destructive and we end up cleaning a huge mess or driving to the ER instead of going to class.

What is considered a "quality" post? Something other than a dozen "Yeah, me too!" responses?

Substantive posts that give us an opportunity to kind of get to know you a bit are what we look for when opening up some of the more private boards. We do this for a couple reasons -- mainly because medicine is a SMALL world and we've had some whack-a-doodles who've joined with ulterior motives. (ie. journalists looking for an angle, stalkers, exes, etc.)

It's not personal. All of us waited a bit before getting access to the more restricted boards. Once you're in, you'll appreciate the privacy.

Many of us have been kicking around these parts for several years. The delay seems like it takes forever, but in relation to the amount of time we've been members, it's actually pretty short.

Hang in there. It will pass quickly enough.
