    "So ... urology?"
    "Yep."
"Is that ... you know ... what I think it is?"
    (me, thinking: uh, maybe?)

And I've also got the token, "Oh, you're so *lucky* to be married to a doctor."

When my family (mom) asks stupid questions about his job/schedule, I have started responding with "maybe if he gets fired. I'll let you know"

Them: "So what does your husband do?"
Me: "He's a resident in ophthalmology..."
Them: "Oh! ...and yet you wear glasses"

This had me laughing so hard that tears were running down my leg.

DrK is a psychiatrist. I get both of these. Especially the "real doctor" thing. A lot of people don't know that psychiatrists are doctors. And a lot of stuff along the lines of "Does he read minds?" "Is he psychoanalyzing you?" "Is he crazy?" "Are *you* crazy?" "My friend/niece/neighbor is a psychologist. . ."

A lot of times I have to explain what a psychiatrist does when he's "on call" or working in an ER because people think that a mental health emergency is when Robert DeNiro *needs* to speak with his therapist in "Analyze This." Or I have to explain that we keep our home address private because when a mentally unstable patient finds his psychiatrist's home it's more "Cape Fear" than "What About Bob?"

We get a lot of numb-skulls who think mental health/psychiatry is funny or that psychiatrists are navel-gazing weirdos. We get others who think that psychiatrists are miracle workers who can transform a person with just a magic insightful phrase or two.

We've only gotten the "real doctor" comment from my step-MIL's sister-in-law who can't resist making nasty comments about everyone and everything. Everyone in the family hates her.

These are awesome. I swear the brain/mouth connection has been severed in some people.

Between my dad, the colorectal surgeon, and my husband, the urologist, I'm getting pretty good at answering the inevitable why questions.

I don't get a lot of doctor comments. Early on a few people commented that I must really trust my dh to let him go into OB.

Since dd1 has started wearing glasses I've had several people ask if they're real. Yes, because I accessorize my one year olds wardrobe with fake glasses.

This thread is amazing. Seriously, all medical spouses should get gold medals or something.

When people find out dh is in podiatry school they usually give one of two responses:

                              1. "Oh, does he like kids?" (Well, yes, but podiatry and pediatrics are not the same thing.)
                              2. "Eeew, why would you want to work on feeeeet?" (First of all, it's true, feet can be grosser than I ever anticipated. Secondly, isn't it cute how people think specialties like ob/gyn just look at cute babies all day?)

Edit to say that I didn't notice Pollyanna's comment on her hubby being an OB until after I posted. Just underscores the same point! People think they look at cute babies and sexy woman parts all day.

I get this all the time. And i love when people (like my SIL) ask me what I could possibly be doing all day on Saturday. Ummm grocery shopping and cleaning. Her "oh, I figured you had someone to do that for you." Uhh nope. DH does, but uh no, no I don't.
