Yep. I am very careful about what I say because it gets twisted into something negative and referred to on Facebook!!

Maddening. Fortunately the last time it happened, DHs friends knew better and thought it was hilarious.

When people around here learn DH is a doctor (which takes a lot to pry out of me), they ask what kind..."Emergency? Waiiitt. Now I recognize your last name...I think he did a pelvic exam on me/I think he examined me for testicular torsion/did he mention the joke he made about my urine sample?"

This one happens at least twice a year.

It's when I've interacted with someone new a few times and they bust out with, "You are so NICE...and pretty funny! I never thought you'd be nice!" (add in the overly shocked tone and clueless but happy look on their face)

Yeah! Set with tons of debt! (usually, and at least for a portion of your adult life. Still, it's no bed of roses)

                Urgh, what must people think!

I was talking to an old teacher a couple of years ago (she was my teacher when I must have been about 5 or 6). She asked if I had a boyfriend I said, yes, I have. She said never to get married, men are horrible. OK. She then asked what he does for a living. When I said he's a doctor she completely changed her opinion and told me to make sure I marry him because we must be rolling in money and that I'll never have money problems with him. Right, because I'm marrying him because he's a doctor AND has this money you speak of...

While talking to a work mate-
Her- So, what does he want to specialise in?
Me- Psychiatry, he wants to be a psychiatrist
Her- (Looking confused) so he doesn't want to be a doctor anymore? He wants to be a psychiatrist now?
                Me- Psychiatrists are doctors
Her- No, I'm sure you've got it wrong...
OK, you're right, he must be lying about being a doctor then...

(We've been trying for a baby but have had some problems along the way unfortunately). After having a miscarriage in 2012 a friend said to me "but T is a doctor, you should have 5 children by now if you wanted". Why, thank you, that makes me feel better after a particularly rubbish time!

                People can be really dumb!

People frequently confuse psychiatrist with psychologist.

I totally did when I was much younger. But I also thought they were both medical doctors....

I've been at my GP's surgery this morning. The waiting room comments are always hilarious (and make my blood boil ever so slightly!) The doctor was running a bit late so one patient said very loudly "you'd think they'd be working to time, all that money they make!" (Is it just me who can't work this out at all?) This was just one of many comments that was made about doctor's wages (oh and comments about their sexy, hot wives, their mansions, their fancy cars). I'm not sure what doctors they have met but I would like to meet them also haha.

I leave my earbuds in whenever I'm in any patient/family waiting area. The ignorant comments are just too much (and too constant)

I didn't think to take my iPod. I will remember that next time! I was trying my hardest not to make a sarcastic comment about what it's really like living with a doctor.
