What are the stupidest things people have said to you

I've never been in a waiting room where anyone has done this. That just seems so weird.

It's normally fine. Today they just seemed to be looking for every fault they could find in doctors though.

I heard stuff like this ALL THE TIME when I worked in a big public hospital. I hear this all the time on a certain radio show I've come across. I don't know if it's just my area of the country but something about an appointment/procedure not starting or ending EXACTLY on time makes people equate doctors with money grubbing fat cats who are wasting your time by sitting in the back of the clinic smoking a cigar, shopping for luxury vacation homes, and counting their stacks of money. I actually have heard someone say "you wanna know why he's late? Because he doesn't give a shit about patients. I bet he's booking flights for a summer vacation in Europe right now. With OUR money." It's crazy.

Oh, and the elderly couple who discussed why should they even bother going to the doctor because "these young doctors are stupid. They don't learn nothin'. I know for a fact most of them get outta med school without even knowing how to do a regular physical exam. They are all in it for the money." That one almost made me lose my shit.

I happened to re watch Eyes Wide Shut a while back. Tom Cruise is a doctor in that movie. He is portrayed as having unlimited funds and he plays the doctor card over and over to gain privileges. It's like the MD business card is a magic ticket.

My mom's best friend's daughter plays the hooker in that movie (Vinessa Shaw). I've been friends with her my whole life and got to tour Goldie Hawn's house when she was dating her son Wyatt.

In the UK you would still be a doctor as you'd need a PhD to become a registered psychologist.

That cracked me up throughout the movie. He uses it and people respond the same way as a cop showing his badge.

Crazy aunt: So does your DH have to call in an actual surgeon when there's a c-section.

Me: Um DH is a surgeon as an OBGYN. He does c-sections and much more complicated surgery.

I'm surprised at how many people have no idea that OBGYNs are skilled surgeons, they do way more than baby catching.

"OMG, now you just get to sit at home and balance your check book! So many zeros!" - A former coworker, upon learning DH got accepted to med school.

"A doctor's wife! I knew you had it in ya!" - A former college classmate, upon learning I am married to a med student.

"So, son-in-law, how is the medical field?" - My crazy birth mother, when DH and I visited during winter break after his first semester of med school.

                            I'm not...
I've met many dickhead urologists who want to tell you that "OB/Gyns are not surgeons unless they do Gyn surgery fellowships. They basically do one kind of surgery." I'm not defending it or saying it's AT ALL justified, I'm just saying that even doctors think that. To which I want to say, "well, people could say urologists aren't surgeons because you're not Neurosurgeons or CT surgeons doing life and death surgery"...but it's not even worth talking about.

I'm not shocked either. I've certainly heard more than a few doctors make similar comments.

This isn't words but certainly comes across loud and clear. Every time we hang out with a group of people we don't know every well there's always this awkward expectation that we're going to foot the bill. 3.5 years away from the end of training but...he's a doctor, right? It happened again last night. I get it, it was a strange social situation. One guy bought a bottle of wine we shared 4 ways, a few others had beer, then we went somewhere else and I said we should pay for his stuff since he bought the wine. So DH ended up with the entire bill. Several food items and alcohol. One friend finally got the hint and gave me some cash but the other...even if you just have one glass of wine you don't even OFFER to throw us a few dollars?? WTF! Inevitably this shit happens whenever we're with people we don't know very well.
