Thank you for the laugh Gray Matter Wife! WHERE in the heck is your upstair neighbor a Chief at?!?!?! Sure isn't at DH program. Though from what DH said, b/c hospital is a Level 3 trauma, they read more than majority of programs. (or so he says) DH has played golf maybe 4 times in his residency. I love that! Thank you!

In the thick of residency with 2 kids and my own demanding job and DH never home

Welcome, Katherine! I'm another lawyer, married to a 3rd year med student. I can empathize with all the difficulties you've described. We aren't quite there yet-- a couple years from residency and just contemplating kids-- but doing everything you are doing already intimidates me. I'm impressed with you!
What's your practice like? Any way you could cut back on hours a bit to give yourself some sanity?

I do civil litigation. NOT the right practice to be married to a doc. Two stress filled jobs makes for many challenges but I do love many aspects of my practice. My DH loves that I do that. I have just now started to think about cutting back b/c I am starting to get a little bit depressed but I don't know how to do it w/o my bosses finding out. Things so far have worked out pretty decently. It hasn't been till the past couple months that it has gotten a little sticky i.e. DH working nights and I have to fly to another city for work over night. My nanny (not for status, just for necessity) loves it b/c she gets extra $$$ for staying overnight. I have thought about sitting down with DH and going thru a budget again. Right now he is making $42K. I know we can't afford our mortgage and basic expenses and I don't know how to find a lower paying job without putting my kids in daycare. I have no hangups or issues with daycare. Actually tried it twice with my 3 year old but after he got croup at daycare , was in ICU as a 15 mo old on a ventilator for a week, I cried Uncle and got a nanny. Don't regret it AT ALL. Allows me to provide for the family financially but now I am wondering if this constant juggling is wearing more on me than I thought.

Hi Katherine! Welcome to the group. My DH is a PGY-1 radiology resident. He's mentioned to me before that PGY-3 is going to suck because of the call schedule. I'm sorry to hear it's true. You've found the right place though, this group has been fantastic!.
