She wasn't ungodly. She was mentally ill.

I wouldn't say the Duggar's motives are entirely altrusitic. They certainly participate in a church that encourages large families, and believe they are following god's will in their choice not to use birth control.

To debate Ungodly vs Mentally Ill:

      Definition of Ungodly:
      ungodly
      One entry found for ungodly.
      Main Entry: un·god·ly
      Pronunciation: -lE
      Function: adjective
1 a : denying or disobeying God : IMPIOUS, IRRELIGIOUS b : contrary to moral law : SINFUL, WICKED

She was mentally ill, but what she did was still ungodly aka morally wrong.

        Re: the duggar family

Okay - by definition, yes, ungodly. But in context of DrWahoo's post where she's comparing one person who seemingly CAN handle 17 children, vs. another woman with severe mental illness who was unable to handle 5 and tragically killed them, the use of 'ungodly' appeared to me to be a more judgemental (as in Biblically judgemental) statement instead of acknowledging Andrea Yates' mental illness. There is a difference between a person who would deliberately choose to murder someone, and a woman who was so ill she thought God was telling her to kill the children.

            Re: the duggar family

I'm sorry, I wasn't really calling Andrea Yates ungodly, her act of killing her kids was ungodly. But I was really saying if you know that you have a mental illness or emotional problems that will prevent you from taking care of the kids, then I think it is ungodly to bring children in this world or at least have a full time chaperon. And I don't think having 20 kids or not is a godly or ungodly. I in fact am annoyed by people who think that just because a woman has a uterus they should have tons of kids.

                  Discovery Health has this:
                  http://health.discovery.com/convergence ... -poll.html

I hope some of those aren't the names actually being considered. Julianna is leading in the poll. Despite being a name destined for greatness (ahem! :fans: ), they already have a Johanna, Joy-Anna, and Jana. I know people joke about "running out of J names," but seriously, there are a lot of J names out there, find one with a different ending! And Jessica should be off the table because they already have a Jessa.

And 17% of people picked Jack, even though they already have a Jackson!

I'm kind of surprised they don't already have a Joel or especially a Jacob.

Being where I am in my life, the thought of being pregnant for the 18th time (give or take a couple - did she have any multiples?), just makes me want to fall over.

They were on the Today show this morning when they announced this. I thought it was very obvious that the oldest boy was NOT happy there was going to be another one.

and I looked it up - she's due 1/1/09. She's not terribly far along to be making national announcements, IMO. Although clearly she's got a good track record!

                            Re: the duggar family

I've officially decided I am disgusted by how the Duggar parents exploit their children for attention.

If they have 60 children and can take care of them and her body can handle it then I say more power to them.

But, I am sickened by how Michelle Duggar appears to have some serious issues namely: an unhealthy desire for attention (bordering on exhibitionism imo) and her willingness to have her children be the vehicle for HER fame.

The thing I can't stand about the Duggars is how much the older kids take care of the younger ones. I really don't see that much "normal kid stuff" going on. I think it's great to have kids doing chores, etc., but when kids become the parent figure, that's a problem IMO.
