      Seriously. I can't believe he's gotten away with it for this long. I never have time "off." I have no sympathy for this.

        I don't know, Heidi... I guess it's one of those things that's beyond the scope of most reasons for people to not go to work... So people don't know what to do and error on the side of caution.

        At our university, instructors (profs/TAs) are given a list of holidays at the beginning of each term. Every single thing. Holidays I never knew existed. So, if a student says that he/she observes Gummy Bear Day, then we're supposed to be lenient with attendance.

          This is residency - not politically correct camp. There is a time to be sensitive to things like that, and I time to tell them to shove it up their rear end.

            I hear you, Heidi.
            My dh was saying that Anesthesiology is one of the only specialties that is flexible enough to allow for this, and that's why he went into it. It's mostly shiftwork, and someone can take over for you relatively easily.
