    Yes, I too cringed when I was included into the group of conservatives.
    Current usage of the term "conservative" evokes images of neocons and beliefs that are extremely right. I absolutely refuse to claim association with either Republicans or conservatives until the party comes back more towards the center. Although I voted for W the first time, I voted for his opponent the second time. I hope that the Republican party loses big time so that it understands the level of disenfranchisement felt by so many of its former constituents.

    At first blush, I appear to be in line with Kevin's views in that we both worship Milton Friedman. There are necessary social functions of the State which are best performed when the forces of free markets, democracy, and when the least amount of government intervention is invoked. Make no mistake, however, there is a time and a place for such regulation and intervention. This is the balance that must be struck.

      I loved in when Milt mused about immigration. He said theoretically we could open all borders with completely open policy -- IF we didn't have any elaborate services paid for by our taxes for persons crossing the border.
