    Sorry.

I've probably just dug an even deeper pit for myself.
What in the world ARE your spiritual beliefs?! Rapunzel, you need an "I'm just being funny, so please don't take what I say seriously" smiley.

Huh. I'll explain what just happened:

I stated that I think social liberalism dovetails nicely with evangelical Christianity. I stated that social liberalism sees the government as a "messiah" of sorts. Then, Jenn (who works for a social agency) states that she has been "saving" people all day. And, I put the two together by (yes, jokingly) saying she is Jenn the Almighty.

Honestly, you guys didn't read it all and see that?

And, yeah, usually I'm being silly. If I state that I'm having a bad day, I'm grumpy, or something else is very wrong in life then I'm generally not being silly. But, my default is either straight-forward or silly. And, I enjoy word play, analogies, and irony.

      Oh gosh!

      No!

I was trying to be "punny".

      Oh man.

      I'm sorry, Jenn!

I was so not trying to be mean or anything!

      sigh

This is one of those times when voice really matters and I'm just typing....

      Anyway, Jenn, I'm so sorry.

I voted completely separate. In my perfect world this is how I would hope to be. In reality, I'm sure my beliefs political and spiritual influence one another.

Thanks, everyone, for posting so many different views. That's why I love the "Debates" forum.

If I do vote, I will have to vote for Obama... When we get to Congress, I will likely vote for Republicans because I want to temper what Obama can do.
That is a solution to the bipartisan problem that I can honestly say I hadn't considered before! Hmm... will have to chew on that one... :mmm: ( <-- what I am literally doing up at this hour)

Re: ok, you asked for it...

I haven't made any secret of the fact that I consider myself to be a liberal Catholic. (Among liberal Catholics, this is called being a "social justice" type. )
This is what DH and I are. We call it "Reform Catholic" (just like my in-laws practice Reform Judaism). While we are Catholic, there are many tenants of the Catholic church that we disagree with. I think it's hard to be a scientist and agree with many religious beliefs.

I don't know if that is why or not, but I really feel separation of church and state is of huge importance in our country, and so I personally try to separate my religion from politics as much as possible. Because my religion taught me many of my values, I think it is probably impossible for me to separate completely, though.

In my perfect world religion (of any kind) and politics do not mix under any circumstances, AT ALL. Hence, I don't see any problems in keeping all kinds of abortions legal or gay marriage.
