I am going to step back from the serious discussion here and just point out, for the record, that her children are named Track, Bristol, Willow, Piper, and Trig.

(ETA: Obviously, I'm reading the same things Tara is.)

ETA: As far as I know, HRC was always a working mom..and her motherhood was put to the test. It will be interesting to see how the republican women who are sahm nazis (not implying they all are, btw) embrace Palin, particularly seeing as she has a 4 month old.

Just wait...having young children will be her downfall.

It will definitely be interesting to see what the majority will make of her, but I don't think the majority of voters are going to vote for the veep here. I sooooo want to see a woman in the White House, but it has to be the right woman. Too bad she lost, but she'll be back. 2016, anyone?

I may be way off base here, but I don't think McCain, even with his clever VP pick, has a snowball's chance in Miami, of winning the presidency.

The prior governor of Alaska is also a woman, right? Or maybe I'm thinking of one of the senators -- Murkowski or something? I'll have to go check. I'm assuming that she (Palin) is far, far removed from Ted Stevens.

She is Alaska's first female governor.

I was thinking of Lisa Murkowski and thought (incorrectly) she had served as governor at some point.

Me, too!! HOORAY, HOORAY!!! Someone I can really admire and even look up to! A mother of FIVE, happily married, very intelligent, pro-life, AND she went back to work three days after giving birth to her latest child (can TOTALLY relate to that reality!).

I don't get the Ted Stevens thing. He's been INDICTED, I believe. And yet, he just won the primary?? I mean, I understand the idea that he hasn't been convicted, but still...I am not sure I would vote for someone under indictment!

I remembering hearing something about the state senate or rep leader being investigated (and perhaps indicted? convicted?) in the Ted Stevens story. I wonder if it has to do with that. Rep Don Young is also trouble.

:huh: I feel McCain doesn't stand a chance when I'm on this site. But the polls are showing a 50/50 race. Although I don't expect people to vote for veeps I do think she'll bring a lot of energy to his campaign.

Considering where I live, I think McCain has a chance - quite a chance. I hope I'm wrong.

I hadn't even considered people going after Palin b/c of the volume of kids she has. I guess it shows where that (as an issue) ranks on my radar. I'd be more critical of her choice of names for her children . She's got to have some hippy-dippy granola in her somewhere. Those are NOT good ol' Republican names!

Off to see if I can figure out why she's being investigated....

Oh - and Abigail - I agree w/you about the voting for someone under indictment. Didn't the voters in Louisiana re-elect someone under indictment?

Sarah Palin, 44, Governor of Alaska, has some controversies attached. There is a controversy over her ex brother-in-law, Mike Wooten. Mike Wooten and Sarah Palin’s sister divorced. Mike Wooten worked as a state trooper.

The legislative panel have a $100,000 budget to investigate if Sarah Palin fired Alaska’s Public Safety Commissioner because he refused to fire Mike Wooten. Sarah Palin has denied her involvement. Palin denied having her hand in her husband, Todd Palin, dialing Wooten’s bosses. Palin’s administrative staff also made many calls to Wooten’s superiors. When questioned,

The Palins alleged that Mike Wooton drank beer in his patrol car, and fired a Taser at his step son, age 11. Mike Wooton was accused of threatening the safety of the Sarah Palin’s father.

Lawmakers will hire someone within a week to investigate whether Governor Sarah Palin abused her power in firing Public Safety Commissioner Walt Monegan. The legislative council approved 100,000 dollars for the investigation that will find out whether Palin was angry at Monegan for not firing an Alaska State Trooper who went through a messy divorce with Palin's sister.

On Monday afternoon, the Joint Legislative Council, filled with Republicans and Democrats, voted 12 to 0 to formally call for an investigation against Governor Palin in a manner—that they are stressing—will be unbiased and done in a timely fashion.

Legislators approved hiring a special investigator to look into the controversial firing of former Public Safety Commissioner Walt Monegan. Monegan was fired two weeks ago without explanation and has said he was pressured by the governor and her staff to fire a trooper who was once married to Palin's sister.

Accusations have risen that Monegan was fired for his refusal to fire trooper Michael Wooten. The council's intent is to investigate the circumstances and events surrounding the termination of Monegan and potential abuses of power and improper action by the Governor and her administration.

"It is the intent of the legislative council that the investigation be professional, unbiased, independent, objective, and conducted at arms length from the political process," said, Senator Kim Elton, a Democrat from Juneau.

The council's intent is to investigate the circumstances and events surrounding the termination of Monegan and potential abuses of power and improper action by the governor and her administration.

"I think what it really gets down to is after the comma, add potential abuses of power and improper actions is really what we are looking at or at least proposing to look at?" said Representative John Harris, a Republican from Valdez.

Governor Palin has denied the accusations, saying she replaced Monegan to go in a new direction. And although she doesn't think an investigation is needed, she welcomes the questions.

The council went through a detailed meeting to make sure the process is done in a timely manner with accurate results.

"We will get from this is," said Senator Hollis French, a Democrat from Anchorage, "no evidence of wrong doing, some evidence of wrong doing, clear evidence of wrong doing, that will come back to us."

"At that point the body has to make the decision: 'Is this evidence strong enough to proceed on or not?'"

"I think it should be made very clear because there have been conversations about personnel matters that the issues really that we are dealing with here are not the termination of the public safety commissioner," said Harris.

Legislators hope that during this investigation that the politics are left out of the mix, which can be hard for government officials.

"What really remains is the most significant hurdle," said Representative Jay Ramras, a Republican from Fairbanks. "Are those professionals going to feel compelled to be subpoenaed before they will speak candidly about what they know?"

Senator French is the Senate Judiciary Committee chairman and is in charge of hiring the investigator. He says he has a short list of candidates and that the investigation should be finished within a few months.
