LOL, it is moving a bit slow for my taste but that was some nice ring forging there. The transitions just take so long - it took like 20 minutes to get all that grass off the field.

ha ha ha! Glad he agrees with me! My DS5 is playing on the other laptop -- Goofy is more interesting than the Olympics.

I've never been a huge fan, though I definitely prefer the winter Olympics. I was obsessed with figure skating as a child.

I just couldn't ever get that into it because Ive never considered most athletes heroes or even worth of particular admiration. You've spent gobs of money and all your time on a pursuit only for your own glory? Fine, whatever, but I don't think that makes you a hero or role model. I don't hate the games, but they've just never really done it for me.

However, T&S you make good points about the non superstar US athletes and those from other nations that worked against real adversity to get there.

I actually am proud of all the Sooners on the gymnastics team, though!

See I don't think that's true for the majority of the athletes in the games, and you can see that in the parade of nations. I think it has very little to do with personal glory and more to do with pride and honor for your country -- that is, less about the individual and more about the whole.

Out of all of this, the IOC couldn't find one minute to honor the athletes murdered 40 years ago? Are you kidding me? I'm sure the opening was incredibly impressive in person, but it was slow on TV, and I just kept thinking about some of the ridiculousness that the IOC comes up with.

The IOC has been coming up with excuses not to acknowledge Munich for the last 40 years. Kudos for Bob Costas for speaking up. I knew he was all pissed about it too, and I'm glad he said something.

I agree, that seems really wrong about not acknowledging the Munich incident.

Also, our women's outfits were terrible!

On the upside, I saw my college teammate cross the screen briefly which was super cool!

The competition is what excites me. The vast majority of these athletes know they will never win a medal but they still work their butts off for years for this opportunity. I guess I just feel like patriotism can be controversial sometimes depending on your politics so it's nice to see a little patriotism that's so positive!
