I’m so sorry Kris. I cannot imagine that they’ll let him fly while potentially contagious.
There is such poor communication that we don’t know what is going on. No one is responding to our emails and calls and our school is shut down. I’m so exhausted and anxious.
spotty_dog I know, but I still disagree with the approach. This disease is looking more and more like it may be airborne and by the time we see cases in schools it will be too late. I’m in a very red area, so there is a large swath of the population who believe COVID-19 is merely a liberal tactic and it’s overblown by liberal media.

I agree and that must be super stressful. I wouldn’t want him airborne either (cabin pressure to 8000 ft above sea level) which can be hard if you’re having respiratory issues.

What are you guys going to do when/if your spouses are exposed? There’s been no guidance and while I’m not super concerned for our nuclear family, I don’t also want to be come a community spreader but I do still have to grocery shop, etc.
And what are the HCPs supposed to do once they’re exposed but not sick. They could give it to the entire hospital before they come down with it.
How do we not have protocols for this?

I'm in a similar boat. Most people here are still joking around about it. I did do a double-take and think, "Is this true evidence-based practice or is this part of the government effort to suppress the dangers and quell panic?" Sucks to have to think that about CDC. We are in a confined area and our district only borders two others. The district to the south of us has closed for six weeks. The district to the north of us has put out extensive messaging to explain why they are still open but to prepare families for imminent closure. Our district hasn't so much as emailed since they informed us on Wednesday that a staff member with prior exposure came down with symptoms and is now quarantined pending test results. It's not reassuring. I really want to just keep my kids home, but hubby thinks I'm being ridiculous. (At the same time he's super stoked that we could pull them out at any time and have an excused absence, LOL.)

In all honesty, I feel like that ship has sailed. I have to assume that among the dozens of patients with upper respiratory symptoms that he's had to gown up to see, and the several he's swabbed for suspicion of COVID, somebody's a carrier. However, because he does take appropriate precautions, I don't feel like our family is at particularly increased risk. I'm not going out unnecessarily (I'm shopping exactly once per week and trying to make sure that I maintain 2 weeks of supplies in case I need to skip a shopping trip). I'm not inviting other kids to my house. And I'm not volunteering at the school for now. But especially as long as the schools stay open, I'm not feeling like we're a problem.
(Although asymptomatic transmission has been seen, I don't think it's considered to be a major avenue. Last I heard from our Public Health Department, people are still the most contagious when they're the most sick, and droplets and surfaces are still the vectors for transmission.)
Schools closed here for another week--we were on spring break. These children are gonna drive me nuts.
The hospital has informed trainees that if they test positive, they self-quarantine for 2 weeks and use up all their sick days. Except it is March, so there's a good chance that many of those sick days have been burned already...DH has a small handful left. Not sure what happens then? Unpaid leave? Make him scrap the last week of fellowship vacation we were going to use to move? That's definitely going to make people want to be tested.
Same policy at the other training hospital where my sister works, though she says the issue has been raised that if it was acquired while working that should be counted as a "work related injury" not this "own your own without pay" crap.
Also it's radiology. They need minimal people on site--almost everyone can work from home if they have the right equipment. But as far as I know, that hasn't happened. DH also is a little "wtf" on some of the CT screening guidelines--there is nothing specific on a chest CT that can make you say, "Yes this is Coronavirus" vs a number of other very common findings, but hospitals seem to be acting like there is.
Married to a newly minted Pediatric Rad, momma to a sweet girl and a bunch of (mostly) cute boy monsters.
So far, they said the schools, play grounds, rec centers, etc are all getting a deep cleaning during spring break. No closure announced yet.
Meanwhile, I’ve initiated this GISH style game via Facebook with the families in each of my children’s respective grades. That’s 3 grades in a 6-year school. I should probably find a way to open it up to the whole school.
“I was brainstorming with my kids about fun stuff we could do during this lousy (possibly endless) school break that doesn’t involve going to crowded public places. We had an idea for a photo scavenger hunt competition between the classes in each their grades. I’m still working out the details but I was wondering if your families would be interested in participating. It would go something like this: Each class is a team and we’d post photos here. Scavenger hunt items would be things like “5 team members hanging upside down” and at least 5 kids from the class would have to post pictures here of themselves hanging upside down. First class that posts 5 pictures of 5 different team members hanging upside down, wins that round.
My son is suggesting that anyone from the grade can post a challenge here. Some other possible challenges could be “10 team members reading,” “7 clean bedrooms”, “8 blanket forts”, “make over 6 moms”, “prank 6 dads”, “12 kids playing board games”... Basically goofy (or necessary — doing laundry?) stuff that they can do at home.
At the end of the game (and we could keep this going for a while), we can tally up the points and find a way to reward the winning class. (I’d post separate hunts for my other children’s grades).”

Welp, my employer, my two younger children's public school, and my oldest'a university classes are off until April 6. My State is acting aggressively. At this point, although it may be overkill, I appreciate the leadership to do SOMETHING.
I'm vacillating between "Meh" and "holy crap we're doomed", so I guess I'm like the rest of the citizens.
I'm making mini goals on what I want to accomplish next three weeks like work out for 21 days straight, clean out garage, read some tougher than normal texts, weed the damn flower beds and potentially mulch (if I can somehow get it delivered remotely).
If we have to go to through the crisis, I *hope* the country thinks about what we want to look like on the other side.
We are out too. Earliest day back is 4/27 and they keep saying it might be longer. JUST WOW.
I'm still processing. This has effected almost every area of my life.

Cases are still relatively low here in IL but I’m thankful the governor is shutting down school until April 6th. It’s gonna be rough not losing my mind with my kids but I think it is forcing people to take this seriously.
I also expect our numbers to jump rapidly next week but hope that closing schools and encouraging working from home will pay off over the next few weeks.
I stocked up on essentials several weeks ago but went out today to get cough syrup and a few parishables while risk is still low. Aldi was a madhouse. I waited in line 10 minutes before reaching the register. The lady behind me said that it wasn’t as bad as other grocery stores. And when I went to CVS for cough medicine the woman in front of me was doing her grocery shopping. She had $250 in toilet paper, paper towels and food.... from the pharmacy!
I’m still wondering what happens to people getting married now. We have a Texas family wedding 3 weeks from tomorrow. My girls are all flower girls.
They haven’t altered DHs clinic or surgery schedule yet. But his hospital has at least one confirmed case.

I'm prepared for school to be out until Fall, and for there to be distance learning implemented when we go back. This is SERIOUS SHIT. I'm hoping that between extreme measures and warmer weather we get ahead of this thing somehow, but I feel like I need to brace for that worst case scenario.
The public libraries in my county are now closed indefinitely.
This isolation is really making me anxious. I don’t like that we are all cut off from each other, we cannot congregate, there are restrictions on when I can see my mother, we cannot go to religious services, our ability to educate our children is hampered, many people are or will be suffering financially. Our access to information could be limited. If the internet were to shut down, we would be completely isolated. This is alarming on so many levels.

Meanwhile introverts everywhere are excited about “social distancing” trending!
On a serious note, if anyone wants the lowdown on homeschooling resources, reach out to me, I may have suggestions. Mostly elementary because I’ve so far homeschooled K-4th while meeting/exceeding common core requirements bc the local public school buys my materials.
