Meanwhile introverts everywhere are excited about “social distancing” trending!
On a serious note, if anyone wants the lowdown on homeschooling resources, reach out to me, I may have suggestions. Mostly elementary because I’ve so far homeschooled K-4th while meeting/exceeding common core requirements bc the local public school buys my materials.
It's not so much an introvert/extrovert problem as a worry terrible things can be happening while we are isolated, distracted, and afraid. It's starting to feel like martial law. Historically, being shut up in our homes, unable to congregate or travel freely, hasn't been good for people.

My plan is to "deschool" for at least a week. No curriculum, regular music practice, lots of reading and family activities. I might add some structured activities after that, like 30 minutes of "math time" per day (I have a ton of resources like Beast Academy and Borac competition math, and am thinking of trying DreamBox for my daughter) or a poetry teatime or freewriting session. But mostly I'm kind of excited to see what would happen with child-led education, since I feel relieved of the pressure of having to "make progress" relative to school subjects. Today while walking in the woods we talked about Latin roots and valuation of currency and who knows what else.
This isolation is really making me anxious. I don’t like that we are all cut off from each other, we cannot congregate, there are restrictions on when I can see my mother, we cannot go to religious services, our ability to educate our children is hampered, many people are or will be suffering financially. Our access to information could be limited. If the internet were to shut down, we would be completely isolated. This is alarming on so many levels.

I predict they’ll make more “progress” than you could’ve ever imagined with that plan. Child-led education is phenomenal when the adult/teacher/parent relaxes (lets go of standards-obsession) enough to jump fully down crazy rabbit-holes. Because of some of my kids questions, I’ve learned things I had never been exposed to before. And Beast Academy is fantastic, my kids love it.
If you are letting them research topics on the computer, I highly recommend Crash Course “Navigating Digital Information” as it teaches in a kid-friendly way how to question the legitimacy of an information source.

Where do I find the Crash Course?

YES!!! You guys remember my mental health when I was homeschooling... I have been so happy going to school, interacting with people, etc. Everything is shut down around here.. I'm guessing it will be at least 6 months before we see any lessening... I can barely breathe. 6 months of social distancing...including spouse and kids. Physical touch is my love language...... No choir...my outlet... I am seriously about to hyperventilate... Not to mention all the people that will be dying...jobs lost. We will be ok financially, but so many people will not...... What will our world look like in a year??????????? So many suffering people... I am a helper and i cannot help... I can just sit alone in a room... ( Have a sick kid that has the flu, but we are isolating just in case..)
They just cancelled all elective cases at DH's hospital - hopefully they cancel clinic next. If that's the case DH and his partner will rotate call by the week rather than the day - so that they can minimize their exposure to risk.
Meanwhile I'm pissed.... bars are packed in downtown Chicago for St. Patrick's day weekend. And my parents went to church and to an outdoor concert in FLORIDA. What the hell Florida?!? We've closed churches and schools here and my parents have their effin heads in the sand. There are so many old people in Florida too!
DH got their email “orders” last night describing the plan and the levels of care.
When the first person tests positive in their hospital system, halve of elective cases are canceled. Once there are 10, they’re all canceled. It goes on from there.
Very quickly, all the surgeons are converted to Gen Surg attendings on shifts with priority going to their own consulting expertise (so DH would be assigned any difficult Uro issues, an ortho the ortho issues, etc) but mostly they’re just doctors. In an extreme scenario, they promote all PGY4 residents and above to attending status (like if too many attendings are sick).
Honestly, this email is terrifying me. I’m all of a sudden very frightened.

If elective cases are cancelled and there are only a handful of coronavirus cases, are surgeons/anesthesiologists put on unpaid leave?
Of course hubby's group has not provided any info about what would happen on this scenario. They're busy trying to figure out how to keep OR's running. All they said was if they are quarantined because of exposure, it comes out of their PTO ,🙄

They have canceled elective cases at one of the two hospitals here so far. The assumption is that if there isn’t work for DH (anesthesiologist) he will just be unpaid although it has also been mentioned that if things get real bad physicians may be asked to practice outside their area of specialty. We have canceled our trip to DC in a couple weeks.
Yup. The hospital employed physicians are allowed to use their sick days in that event. Not his group. It figures that his last 8 weeks there are looking to be horrendous.
If there are a lot of coronavirus cases, he will go on ICU full time anyway
