Not a bad way to do it. My mom gave up smoking for a pair of red pumps.

        Jenn,
Where did you go for the bra fitting? I really need to do this.

To a tiny store here in DC called Le Coups de Foundre (owned by teeny French ladies) and it was totally worth the sick amount I paid for two bras.

She made me try on a whole bunch and some definitely fit way better than others and the cup thing...while I wanted to cry because I never wanted girls that size, they did look a whole lot better.

The Oprah show did a whole special on it (94% of the audience were in the wrong sized bra) and used Nordstrom bra ladies.

I think Sears or JC Penny has a chick available to do sizing free of charge.

Whatever you do don't get measured at Victoria's Secret. They're always way off. It may be because they're very young and have no more than a couple of weeks' experience, or maybe because their own boobs are pushed to their necks. I don't know. Go to a place where they know their stuff, like Jenn did.

Back on the topic of sizes, something's got to change soon because the current system is so messed up that I wish I was a guy. I'm 5'2" and fairly thin and I have the hardest time finding nice clothes. And when I say nice clothes, I don't mean the micro mini denim skirts and tank tops with all sorts of cut offs, because these come in such sizes that a 10 year old can wear them. :thud: In any case, I've had good luck with J Crew, Ann Taylor, and Banana Republic but it's hit or miss because they run out of my size pretty quickly.

I'm 4'10" and I'm ALWAYS having trouble finding petite clothes that fit. I haven't really bought clothes for myself in years. I've been having babies for the last 7 years (currently am pregnant with #5). Between pregnancies, I'd workout and slim down finding myself getting pregnant again. Anyway, this is our last baby and after working out and slimming down I'm going on a clothing shopping spree! (DH doesn't know yet, but I'm sure he'll agree that it's well deserved.) I've had luck pre-kids with JCrew. My fave black dress is from Ann Taylor. I find Banana's clothes to be made too slim for my body. I've had luck with Old Navy shirts. Most recently, before finding out I was pg, I bought a dress from Coldwater Creek. It fit really well.

BTW, I refuse to get my clothes tailored. It seems so unfair to spend so much money on clothes and then to pay additionally to have it altered. However, the Banana Republic in Pittsburgh had free alterations with any merchandise purchased at regular price. I don't know if that's true for all BR stores.

I went shopping with MIL and was surprisd to find that Chico's has invented its own sizing system 0-3. Much easier to handle the size issue if they go up in 1/2 increments instead of 2 sizes at a time. (8-10-12 Vs. .5 -1-1.5) I think that's brilliant marketing on their part.

I recently realized that as much as I have whined about not having funky clothes available to fit my not so funky body shape, I don't want to buy that much at my current size because I'm always "going to lose the weight". I think I've read that the majority of women at any one time are on a diet. Maybe they don't make clothes for less than perfect bodies because we don't buy that much? I know I'm making due with my size 12s. I'll buy "good" stuff when I'm a size 8.

Apparently, I just need to go to BR.

Eileen Fisher also has the 1 2 3 sizing system. Nice textures there.

Jenn ... no wonder you were cranky! 2 cup sizes too small!! WOWZA. The independently owned places are best to get measured -- or Nordstroms (those ladies know their stuff). The one I went to in Cleveland was called Soloman's (in Beachwood). Those women are machines! They'll just reach in and grab the girls, lifting, shoving ... While I was looking for an appropriate undergarment for my wedding dress one of them said "Are you planning on losing any weight before the wedding?" I was "normal" sized then!

It's the kind of place that refers to "foundations" rather than "bras or lingerie".

Sizing is evil. Even places like Lane Bryant have started to do it. I have clothes in one size from several years ago as well as new ones ... and the new ones are cut bigger. Wedding dress sizing is the worst. If EVER they should do the vanity sizing, it's for your wedding day. IMO

This Asian woman (yours truly) shops at Nordstrom, Ann Taylor and Banana Republic and gets everything altered. I'm not a rail thin Asian woman. I'm just above 5' and about 135. I'm so out of place when I visit Japan.

My mom is thin, but I've got these enormous breasts for my stature. So...in blouses, I have to buy a regular size top and get it altered because I have a short torso. Boob pudge is my worst enemy in blouses/shirts that don't fit me right.

I only have a few "nice" things in my wardrobe. I buy jeans at Banana Republic (the petite jeans are great for petites) and get them shortened a little. Tops in a regular size at Ann Taylor (then altered), and other stuff at Nordstrom--they do free alterations on stuff from their store.

If you want a GREAT bra fitting - go to Nordstrom's, they are the best!

As for sizes, I could care less I just wish they'd stop changing them. I hate having to pick up three different sizes when I shop because you never know what size you fit in that particular store.

I'm 5'2" and I've gotten to where I wear regular length pants but only for work b/c I wear heels. The other problem I have is that I need petites in pants, but not shirts or jackets. Shopping is just a pain in the butt - I prefer to order online and send it back if it doesn't fit.

I think a new wardrobe from Ann Taylor and Anthropologies sounds like a fabulous reward for what we put up with - although if I wait that long I'll be wearing rags by the time we're done! 8)

A group of us were going to do a Mom's Night Out at Nordstroms after my experience!

They (the people on the Oprah show) said that we should be remeasured after every 5 pound gain or loss and after pregnancies.

I'll throw in after adoption because I SWEAR the girls got bigger in Russia. I have no other explanation.

VS sucks at fitting. I agree, go for the places that advertise foundation garments. They usually have the MOST exquisit high end bras, that are beautiful and take 15 years off the gals, from the outside at least
