DH did our taxes today. Whew, we don't owe any! Our federal tax refund will cover what we owed for OK state taxes plus the home buyers loan and almost all of a previous years taxes. (We had an error, and we've been making payments on it.)

Finally mailed everything to our accountant in AZ. I am guessing we have overpaid so we should be getting some of the money dh earned in the last year back from Uncle SamTara
Married 20 years to MD/PhD in year 3 of MFM fellowship. SAHM to five wonderful children (#6 due in August), a sweet GSD named Bella, a black lab named Toby, and 1 guinea pig.

Just mailed in our crap today.
I *HATE* paying someone else to do it. Our accountant states that we are his most organized clients. (I organize everything and then tab them with the appropriate designations: income, credits, deductions). Nonetheless, our tax situation has grown increasingly more complex due to some estate planning issues and the recent formation of a corporation for incomes earned from consulting for medical device instrumentation. Add the various crappy city taxes DH pays to each and every local where he has a clinic, and things can get a bit tricky. I still submit that I could do it, but it is does feel like a comforting CYA measure.
Gah. Taxes make me crabby. In my dreams I run with the Kenyans.

I'm waiting on one more document and then I'll be able to finish ours. I went to fill out the packet the accountant sent us and its basically the same EXACT information TurboTax asks us so as long as I can continue to do ours I will - of course DH is employed and on a W-2 so ours really isn't that hard.Wife to NSG out of training, mom to 2, 10 & 8, and a beagle with wings.

Can I say how pissed off I am that I have to provide the state of Wisconsin (the only state I have ever filed an income tax return in, and the state where both of children were born) and original (ORIGINAL) copy of each of their birth certificates? I don't get it. I only have one copy of S's so I need to shell out $20 bucks to get that on Thursday when I take the kids to see their dad, but it means that I have to leave even earlier than normal because I have to be there by 4 pm. I am so pissed about it.
Although the state has kindly offered to mail back the originals via certified mail.Kris

Something about the earned income credit. I also need to provide:
- a copy of the social security card
- a statement from my day care provider
- a copy of the custody decree
- a copy of my property tax statement
Not just for 2012, but all of the same stuff for 2011! I am livid!
I'm pretty sure I got audited because I file in Wisconsin and work in Florida.Kris

We met with our accountant and gave her everything last week. However, she can't finish our stuff until we get our two K-1 forms and they never come until the end of this month. Hoping we won't owe any this year. We had to pay a chunk of change for changing our IRAs to Roths last year.

Lonelywife, may I ask why you did a Roth conversion at this stage of life?
DH has finished on TT but I haven't had a chance to go over it and try to do it on paper. The days of refunds are way behind us. We overpaid, but returns and first quarter estimated tax are due together. Our "refund" is in the pleasure of a tax bill in the low instead of the mid teens, LOL.Alison
