  • Target card theft

    This sucks: https://corporate.target.com/discove...-to-payment-ca

I used my debit card there last week. I'm debating whether it's worth cancelling it and getting a new one.

    It does suck!

Are you just supposed to look at your accounts for suspicious activity?
I checked mine, and there's nothing questionable. Is this a wait-and-see situation?

Annoying. But a good reminder to check my credit report anyway I guess!

Luckily I only use my Target card at Target so I'm not worried about me however, of course, DH went there with R last weekend and used our main AmEx. We already had suspicious activity on that card this month (before this) but we are just watching it like a hawk until all of our Christmas charges come through and then we'll get a new one.

I only use the target card there and it sounds as if those weren't affected (effected? GAH!!!).

That's the dilemma. I don't have any suspicious activity either, but if the numbers are out there, the card could still be duplicated and used in the future. I would be less concerned if it was the credit card because they'll usually remove fraudulent charges immediately over the phone. Debit cards are more complicated because you usually have to complete the fraud forms in person at a branch and while the charges will likely get dropped eventually, you're out of the cash in the meantime.

That's why we've switched to using credit cards for everything except places like Costco that wont accept credit. Chase has actually been remarkably good at catching suspicious activity.

affected was right (you affect things or you have an effect on things, unless you're talking about "effecting change" or having a "flat affect", which are the relatively rare exceptions)

Ha - it is the flat affect that throws me because in my warped little mind, that is fairly common usage. Guess my perspective is skewed from having grown up listening to my mother, the nurse, talk to dad, the cop around the dinner table...

I don't shop there often but did last week and used my debit card. Crap.

I usually shop there once a month or so - I fill prescriptions there. But I went last week to buy some ribbon, and literally charged like $4.75 on my Amex. So annoying.

Yes. Chase is awesome at this

Costco doesn't accept credit cards? I use credit all the time there.

Here they only accept Amex. You can still use your debit card, but Amex is the only credit card.

Costco.com does, but the stores only accept amex or debit, iirc. So they do, but not if you're in the store and all you have is a visa.
