Who met an awful end. Sometimes, it's NOT "good to be the king."

I like George too. It's a solid strong name and not something stupid like Apple or Chrome, lol.

I dare a Royal to do something that silly. Lol I just think of George Costanza from Seinfeld. And Georgie Porgie pudding and pie, kissed the girls and made them cry. The name is ruined for me.

I do think it was nice to honor the great great grandfather - who was a very honorable Royal if The Kings Speech can be believed.

Yes!!!! All I can think about is Geroge from Seinfeld!!! I think it might also be because Jason Alexander played him, so that similarity confuses my little brain.

I just read a CNN article where they go into the history of the name, and if it's all true, there's not a single nod to the kid's mother's line nor to William's mother's side.

Traditionally, I wouldn't expect there to be.

Sad. The Danish royal family has kids with middle names from mom's side. I think. Not 100% sure. I need to stop snooping around the Internet for royal family stuff.

I was sort of disappointed about the name, too! I haven't seen the article discussing the history of the name George, but I'm also sad that there's no homage to Kate's side or Diana's side. My cousin and I were discussing the name a couple of weeks ago and she seemed to think that they'd either go super traditional, or partially very trendy, something like 'Poppy' if it was a girl. Obviously they went uber-traditional, but even if it was a girl I'd highly doubt they'd go the modern, trendy way even if it would be a fun break from tradition. I am definitely fascinated by the royal family and all the trappings that go with it, but to think that Granny waltzed in and did any sort of strong-arming makes me irritated and defensive on Kate's behalf, even though Im sure she expects it and can't do anything about it (assuming she even minds, which she might not)

                    • Seemed to me that Kate would have gone the traditional route regardless. She seems very conservative and does not buck tradition. She's not the type to be rebellious or trendy and name a future king of England "Ryder," "Milo," or "Sawyer" any more than she'd likely name him. "Mordechai", "Rasputin," "Gengis Kahn," or "Frankenstein".

I agree that she does seem traditional, though I did think it would be a fun change! I thought it was an interesting idea though, I hadn't considered anything other than Victoria, Charlotte, Alexandra, etc. (again, I was convinced it was a girl)

                        • I'm sure they discussed not having the full right to name their children prior to getting married. I don't imagine this was an issue of the queen bullying a new mom, just a given that she would have suggestions and final approval. At least they got to choose who they married...

Reminded me of some comments I heard recently about letting kids choose their own gender. Some people are pissed that they are calling the royal baby a "boy". I mean, isn't there already a Boy George in England who has an ambiguous gender identity?
