Tom and Katie: Is it real?

Well, there may have been MORE than just coffee. My former room-mate was quite found of Jim Beam and coffee in the morning. (same guy- showed up at 8am with a dip in his mouth, a cigarette lit and the Beam and coffee. Not kidding)

I thought she was cute but my MR/DD radar did go off- I couldn't put my finger on why though.

Oh, my entire life has bene spent working with people with mental retardation/developmental disabilities (MR/DD) and I tell you that kid just isn't quite right.

I'm not sure that my husband is right, either but I'm sure there are some very good reasons why they waited this long to show her off.

When I saw her I thought, gosh...that baby looks part asian and older than they claim...something just isn't quite about the whole thing.

I'm full Japanese. I've also met(isn't that what all the celebs said that had done?!) quite a few 1/2 Japanese 1/2 caucasian babies, and Suri doesn't look Asian to me. Her eyes and complexion don't either...

She could be a quarter. My DH is 1/2 Filipino and looks asian. Our daughters, especially DH#1, took some of the features like the almond eyes with the asian folds and her eyes are blue....so I can see that maybe Suri is partially asian.

I'm still curious about the 3 days of digital touching-up I've heard about. I'd like to see the originals side by side with the magazine pictures, like the Katie Couric pic from a week or so ago. Why in the world would you need to photoshop a baby's picture? Maybe Suri looks more like Chris Klein than they want us to know. Or maybe the original would set off the average person's 'MR/DD radar'.

it really has saddened me that the tomkat thread was bumped to number four....so i tried to dig up some dirt, but the two of them have been pretty quiet. all i could come up with is this stupid looking picture.

Will TomKat and baby Suri be Washingtonians?


Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes sure must have been enamored with the Washington area when he announced a moviemaking partnership with Redskins owner Dan Snyder just weeks ago. Sources tell us that the pair is putting the final ink on a contract for a $22 million behemoth of a home in Upperville, Va.

The property is listed through Armfield, Miller & Ripley Fine Properties in Middleburg. Its Web site reveals that the 1,100-acre Loudoun County property is “available for only the second time in 75 years” and “amenities include a variety of barns, ancillary residences, seven ponds, a training track, orchard and lovely formal gardens.”

The Web site indicates that it is “under contract.” Agent Anita Sisney would not comment directly on the sale, or on the identity of the buyer. When we asked if she could confirm the sale, she said, “The buyer would like to keep his privacy, and it’s not going to come from me.”

The tract of land, described by one source as the “biggest property ever” has quite a pedigree. It was originally owned by the family of famous Washington-based landscape painter and Civil War veteran Lucien Whiting Powell.

According to a Sept. 27, 1930, obituary from the Evening Star newspaper, posted on the Arlingtoncemetery.net Web site, “the Llandgollen [sic] estate at Upperville, Virginia, was granted to the family by the King of England about 1770. There in the historic hunting region, the Powells entertained George Washington and Lafayette on the 10,000 acre estate. The artist’s uncle, Cuthbert Powell, made it his home for many years, and today the house which Washington and Lafayette knew stands on 1,000 acres of the original tract.”

The Whiting family later sold it to John Hay Whitney, the grandson of Secretary of State John Hay, who bought it for his competitive equestrian wife. Llangollen Farm, part of the original property, is now a functioning, sustainable cattle farm. When asked if the farm was for sale, a man who answered the phone at the farm said he was “not allowed to talk” about it.

Should they make it their primary residence, TomKat would join Robert Duvall among A-list actors in Virginia’s horse country.

Middleburg is a beautiful collection of estates. I went to a wedding there in May.

although, Middleburg, VA is hardly DC. With traffic, it could take hours to get to and from there. I guess they could helicopter around like the military higher ups do. All the money in the world isn't going to make 66 or 495 go any faster.

It is gorgeous though. I went to Hunt Cup once and yup, those rich people sure do live well.

The founder of BET's ex-wife just opened a huge chi-chi spa/resort/restaurant out that way.

It takes forever!! Boy, I hate having to go to DC for work stuff. It's only about 20-30 minutes from good ol' Winchester though. :>
