I agree with the others, go to a good running store. They will watch you run on a test track to see if you pronate, supinate, etc. Then they will recommend a good shoe for you. I ran for years in shoes that were an entire size too small, which caused problems. Being properly fitted is crucial to minimize injuries.Married to a peds surgeon attending

A good running store will be a small store with maybe a few locations in the area but will not be a major chain. You want a store staffed by actual runners as employees, not random high schoolers.
They should put you in several pairs and watch you run after assessing your gait barefoot.Married to a Urology Attending! (that is an understated exclamation point)

Warning, crunchy chick weighing in...
I'm training with minimalist shoes right now and will go back to full on barefoot after the street cleaners come through. Fixed my foot issues but it does take a long ass time to transition if you're used to standard athletic shoes. I will never go back.

I know some barefoot runners. One was doing really great until she hit a patch of acorns on a sidewalk. Ouch! Twisted her ankle and couldn't run for a week. My right ankle twists when I try to run barefoot.Veronica
