    Re: Your Weekend Weather?

My non-scientific measure says 5 inches. In exciting sledding news, DH and the kids found a neighbors driveway longer than ours (private drive for 4 houses) that rocks for sledding. The kids are having fun! And I won't be at jury duty tomorrow! (I know...they will find me and I'll get another chance...but I'm free!!)

Nellie - Isn't it wild to see this much snow here??? I love it.

        Oh crap Annie. That sucks!

We're having a no school day due to the blizzard yesterday AND the temp is -10 but the windchill is -40. Brrr.

          Oh Annie that does suck.

We are in a wind chill advisory, it is currently -6 with a wind chill of -31. Luckily Adele is going to daycare today (LOVE Mayo backup) so I'm running errands in the cold without her, these days have to be booked a month in advance so it just happened to be perfect timing.

:thud: Oh Annie, that really stinks. That would be horrible to lose all that food and more importantly all that effort.

Birdie, yes we are loving the snow and having so much fun. As long as the power doesn't go out, things will be great. Not only did my jury duty get cancelled for the day, I'm considered good for my service. They can't call me back for a year! (For a while there, I was getting called every year in Denver and this is really tough with my kids ages and schedules. Someday I'll be more willing to take part in my civic duty!). What are the odds?

Annie - I can't imagine how frustrated you must be about the food!

We were in the 40's this weekend and today the high is 10. Tomorrow's low is -4. I don't even want to know about the windchills. I sent Caleb to school with a scarf today and he complained vigorously that it "hurt his neck". Seeing as how daycare walks him the 3 blocks to and from elementary school, I told him to suck it up...

                Re: Your Weekend Weather?

Our high was at midnight: 55. As I was driving in the temps went from 39 to 37. Chilly here in San Antonio, especially since yesterday was 80.

and my son has decided that since he's from Russia, he can't possibly get cold so therefore he needs no coat/hat/glovess. Tonight I'm going to pull up the pictures of the kids at the orphanage all bundledup.

They may get sleet/snow again north of us.

Annie -- is all the effort lost?

OceanChild - yes, it's raining in LA (actual rain, not spittle) and this means that all the LA drivers who don't know how to drive in weather will be slamming on their breaks and driving stupidly on the freeways. :badday:
Tell your DH to keep his eyes peeled if he's driving.

I've been here 5 years and I love it, but I've never seen such ill-preparedness for weather other than sunshine in my life. *laugh*
My heart goes out to all who are experiencing very cold weather right now: I've acclimated to CA so much, I have no idea what I'd do.

My kids wouldn't wear winter coats the first winter after we move from Minnesota to Cincinnati. Even now we still mostly just wear fleece hoodies unless we're sledding or something.

Us too. We do light, fleece jackets if we're just going to be in/out of the car.

Anyway, it's cold and windy here, it's supposed to drop down into the teens overnight and then in the 20s tomorrow. Brrr.

Annie, if the door hasn't been opened and it stays fairly cold it should be fine. Fingers and toes crossed.

Do you know anyone with a generator that has freezer space or would let you borrow their generator for a few hours each day??

I hope your power comes back on today!

Oh no, Annie! Just what you need to be dealing with at the end of your pregnancy! Are you back in your house yet?

It's been unseasonably warm here....high 60s/low 70s. We have all of the windows open and are trying to enjoy the warm weather as much as we can while it lasts.

                                Re: Your Weekend Weather?

I am stuck in the house. Our street is a sheet of ice. The city is "thinking about" putting down sand or de-icer. The only way out of the neighborhood is with an all wheel drive car, snow tires, AND chains. DH has brand new Bilzzaks on his car. He tried to get out at 6:30 this morning and made it maybe 1/4 of the way up the hill and then slid backwards for 25 feet. :thud:. He then got stuck and had to have the neighbor help him get the car down the driveway. The roads past our street aren't great but passable. He walked to the kids school and is meeting a friend and borrowing her car for the rest of the day.

This is crazy. I drove on snow for 15 years in Colorado but if the roads don't get cleared they just turn to ice. More snow predicted tomorrow with the possibility of freezing rain.

I'm having groceries delivered this afternoon. The delivery truck has chains but seeing how UPS wouldn't drive down here (making deliveries by hand truck) I don't know if the grocery van should even try. I might have to put on my Yak Trax and walk up there. Not sure what I'll do with the kids.
