I think mine has begun wash out. The first day still looks great but on the second I have noticed that there has been some frizz. So, it lasted about 3 months...for me. My mom bought me the deep conditioner masque, I am going to try it and see if I can stretch it out for another month.

Went ahead and had it (brazilian blowout) done again yesterday. I remember my eyes stinging while they were using the flat iron last time but yesterday my scalp was burning. Not a run out of the chair burning but not comfortable either. All was fine after the wash-out and style. This morning my scalp is tender and feels irritated, I scratched my head and ouch. When I looked in the mirror, I noticed my scalp has little red patches especially on the crown. I don't know if I should was my hair again or if that will make it worse. Don't really know what happened. Like I said, the last time I was fine. Got any ideas??? The salon does not open until 10a today. so, I have a few hours to go.

oh no!! That sounds terrible! Did the same person do it both times? I wonder if they didn't avoid your scalp or used too much of the product? I hope you can get things straightened out with them and that your head feels better soon!

How long since the last time you did it? My stylist said it has to be 11 or 12 weeks or more (but didn't say why). I didn't have any discomfort, skin irritation or anything either time I did it. I hope the salon had some answers for you.

It was right around 12 weeks....same person , same place. I did not get a chance to go by but called her and she said that had not happened before and that she was going to call the BB rep and get back to me. Like I said, the first time all was well. Who knows...maybe my scalp was dry??? When I am in dry climates and don't hydrate, my skin gets so dry that the sunscreen will sting. I imagine that it gets dry and cracked (tiny cracks) and that is why it stings sometimes and sometimes it does not. I am anxious to hear what the rep says.

Our local news station just had a story about BB's. The stylists at a salon downtown were getting sick, so the health dept investigated. BB's have super high levels of formaldehyde in the formula.

that is so weird! Brazilian Blowout advertises itself as not having formaldehyde like most straightening treatments do. I read somewhere that they have a really really low level, and some places say they dont' have any at all.
Just read that BB does advertise as being Formaldehyde free, but a health organization found that there was some? weeeeird!

but still worth it to me. i love my new hair. is that bad?

Yes, that was OSHA in Oregon. They found up to 10% of formaldehyde in the treatments

There are multiple places here that say they do BB. But there is only one original that can use that name and that is the one my salon uses, they had the product for a while but had to wait to be trained and become "certified" before using it. Don't really know if mine has formaldehyde....supposedly it uses acai berry. Have no idea what happened to my scalp this time. Stylist texted me and said she did not get to talk to rep but left a message.

I will be really annoyed if the BB does contain all of these chemicals. One of the reasons I started getting it was because I was told it is not damaging to your hair and did not have all this crap in it.

From a hair board I am on:
Brazilian Blow-out is not Formaldehyde free; it contains Glutaraldehyde which is a colorless liquid with a pungent odor used to disinfect medical and dental equipment. It is also used for industrial water treatment and as a chemical preservative.

However, it is toxic, causing severe eye, nose, throat and lung irritation, along with headaches, drowsiness and dizziness. It is a main source of occupational asthma among health care providers.

Glutaraldehyde is an oily liquid at room temperature (density 1.06 g/mL), and miscible with water, alcohol, and benzene. It is used as a tissue fixative in electron microscopy. It is employed as an embalming fluid, is a component of leather tanning solutions, and occurs as an intermediate in the production of certain industrial chemicals.

Glutaraldehyde is frequently used in biochemistry applications as an amine-reactive homobifunctional crosslinker. The oligomeric state of proteins can be examined through this application.

Monomeric glutaraldehyde can polymerize by aldol condensation reaction yielding alpha,beta-unsaturated poly-glutaraldehyde. This reaction usually occurs at alkaline pH values.

Brazilian Blow-out's claims of being formaldehyde free is very misleading especially if somebody is allergic to formaldehyde or has asthma

I guess I don't care what they find in it at this point because I love my hair with it.

So here is the thing about BB, you go online to get certified, and it contains chemicals. Does it make your hair feel great and smooth YEP!! But basically in the same kinda way a relaxer does. Anything that makes your hair smooth and shiny, when it is not normally like that is a chemical. No berries, grass or oil is going to do that without some sort of chemical changing the protein structure of your hair. If you love the way your hair feels and you love the way it looks, that is great, but do know it is a chemical.

I know my salon was waiting for training for a while after they received the product. They could advertise the BB but could not do it until this person came and trained them. So, each time I went I would ask "can you do it now?" and she would say "not yet." Once they were able to do it, my stylist called me to see if I wanted to be her guinea pig. I don't doubt that it has chemicals because my eyes were a little irritated the first time. This time tough, it was not comfortable. Washed hair today and the red is gone but my scalp is still a little tender.

I just want to know what caused it to happen this time and not the first time. If there was a chance for my stylist to screw it up, it would have been the first time...I would think.

Has anyone tried the Suave at home keratin kit? I bought one but, after reading the instructions, I'm afraid to do it.
