Where in NC are you? I just watched this video that said with the electromagnetic pulse of the earthquake in the Virginia/DC area that the hurricane will line up with that and hit between Jacksonville, NC and Virginia Beach. So like Greenville or all that area depending on the size of it.

What do you mean further east?
Even the legit news sources are saying it's headed for the Carolina's.

They moved the projected path further east after the 5pm hurricane hunter flight. It's still poised to hit the Carolinas, but not the direct hit he was "hypothesizing" in his video.
Look at the most current map and compare it to the one in his video:

Not really surprising...it will change again when they get more data. I just don't buy his logic at all. I completely believe that the earth's geology can affect the weather, but not in the direct way he his suggesting.
Here's the most recent forecast update from the National Hurricane Center--this is what all the other news regarding the hurricane is based on. It changes a couple times a day after they've done a flight--that's when I usually check it.
THE HURRICANE WILL BE TRAVERSING VERY WARM WATERS DURING THE NEXT COUPLE OF DAYS. HOWEVER...THE UPPER-LEVEL PATTERN IS NOT IDEAL FOR RAPID DEVELOPMENT...AND THE GLOBAL MODELS SUGGEST MODERATE WESTERLY SHEAR WILL CONTINUE FOR ANOTHER DAY OR TWO. THE NEW INTENSITY FORECAST IS SLIGHTLY BELOW THE PREVIOUS ADVISORY DURING THE FIRST 24 HOURS DUE TO THE LOWER INITIAL INTENSITY. AFTER THAT...IT IS UNCHANGED FROM THE PREVIOUS FORECAST AND BRINGS IRENE TO MAJOR HURRICANE STATUS IN 36 HOURS. THE NEW INTENSITY FORECAST IS A BLEND OF THE LOWER STATISTICAL GUIDANCE AND THE MORE AGGRESSIVE GFDL/HWRF MODELS. THE AIRCRAFT FIXES INDICATE THAT IRENE HAS BEEN MOVING WEST-NORTHWEST OR 295/8 KT...A LITTLE SLOWER THAN BEFORE. THE TRACK FORECAST REASONING REMAINS UNCHANGED. IRENE IS EXPECTED TO TURN NORTHWESTWARD THEN NORTHWARD DURING THE NEXT 2-3 DAYS AS THE WESTERN PORTION OF THE SUBTROPICAL RIDGE WEAKENS. THE TRACK GUIDANCE IS IN REMARKABLY GOOD AGREEMENT DURING THIS TIME AND THERE IS HIGH CONFIDENCE IN THAT PORTION OF THE FORECAST. AFTER THAT... IRENE IS FORECAST TO MOVE NORTHWARD TO NORTHEASTWARD AROUND THE ATLANTIC RIDGE. SEVERAL OF THE MODELS...INCLUDING THE GFS...ECMWF...HWRF...AND GFDL...SHOW A TURN BACK TOWARD THE NORTH NEAR THE END OF THE FORECAST PERIOD. THIS APPEARS TO BE IN RESPONSE TO A WEAK TROUGH THAT MOVES THROUGH THE SOUTHEASTERN UNITED STATES BEHIND THE HURRICANE. THE UPDATED TRACK FORECAST HAS BEEN SHIFTED EASTWARD AT 72 AND 96 HOURS BUT THE NEW 5-DAY POINT IS STILL ALONG THE LEFT SIDE OF THE GUIDANCE ENVELOPE...IN AGREEMENT WITH THE MODELS MENTIONED ABOVE. USERS ARE REMINDED THAT LARGE FORECAST ERRORS ARE POSSIBLE AT THE LONGER LEAD TIMES.Married to a newly minted Pediatric Rad, momma to a sweet girl and a bunch of (mostly) cute boy monsters.

That map pops up Portland, OR for me.
Oh well hurricanes are funny. I remember one that was projected to hit land and then it did this loopty loop and then it went back out into the ocean and Gulf of Mexico and then turned around and headed back inland. I think it was hurricane Ivan and it changed trajectory with the increase and decrease in intensity of the storm based on the temperatures of the surrounding waters. It sticks out in my memory because it was the weirdest thing I've ever seen a hurricane do.PGY4 Nephrology Fellow

Starting to freak the f*** out here. States of emergency are popping up and nearly every.single.forecast.model has this damn thing going directly over us as a Cat 2. We were away for the week and we will be stocking up on food tomorrow, checking battery supplies, probably storing some water, etc. We only have a 1-car garage, so my car will go in the garage and we will drop DH's off in the parking deck at the hospital. I'm concerned about our property right now. We live in a rental and I'm not sure who is responsible for boarding up our windows and sliding glass doors. Should I be calling the property management company and asking them or should I not wait and do it ourselves? The problem is that we live in a 3-story townhouse and don't have a ladder. We would need to board up from the inside, is this even possible?? Someone on FB talked about making Xs with tape and then taping heavy duty plastic over top of it. I thought tape Xs were a no-no??
Even though we live in an area that sees tropical storms/depressions/remnants go over us from time-to-time, this is possibly the scariest forecast I have ever seen. We have family and friends who live along the Shore. My ILs and one of my dearest friends both live less than a mile from a major bay, and I've heard that another friend and her family are under mandatory evacuations. Everyone has places to go further inland, so I know they will be alright. DH told me that his parents just got flood insurance on their house, they nearly weren't able to get it. And the hurricane is supposed to strike during monthly high tide.
This is the end of DH's vacation, so we will be riding it out together. The hospital sent out a notice that they will be open (obviously), but DH still thinks he will have clinic on Monday afternoon; I've told him that the state of emergency that will surely precede and follow this whole mess will cancel his clinic. My mother is a moron - she texted me to see if we could get together this weekend. Ummm, no, we are going to be hit by a hurricane, maybe you should come out from under that rock and watch some news.Event coordinator, wife and therapist to a peds attending

Do you have renters insurance?
I'm getting worried for my grandparents. They live north of DC and really should be in a nursing home at this point, but they are too stubborn to leave. I'm not sure they are going to handle this well, even if it is just heavy rain/power outages.Married to a newly minted Pediatric Rad, momma to a sweet girl and a bunch of (mostly) cute boy monsters.

Thinking of your grandparents, I hope that they ride out the storm safely. Is there anyone in the area that can keep an eye on them?Event coordinator, wife and therapist to a peds attending
