    Welcome

I couldn't agree more not to sacrifice yourself until you absolutely have to. At some point, EVERYONE has to give something dearly held for the dream of medicine. Hold on to your dreams as long as you can. Of the top of my head, Tulips, Suzy Sunshine, karrotkake and a few others have moved before marriage for a med student/resident and it has worked out. Countless others have not worked out. We don't give this advice to sound mean, bitter, and scary, we've just seen many facets of the medical life throughout the years.

I wish you the best. Welcome to the group.
In my dreams I run with the Kenyans.

Welcome! I am new here as well. We moved to Michigan from Texas for residency a few months ago. Every relationship is different and only time will tell. Long distance is hard and in my experience doesn't work. Although, we have a friend couple that did it for about 1 or 2 yrs during residency but they are married and have 2 kids... that is a bit different. It will be lonely if you go with him because they get so busy they just don't have the time. I'm sure he is asking your friend because he wants to be sure he doesn't move you away and then it doesn't work out.
