    I am a complete and total weenie

    I mentioned in the rant/vent thread that due to my mother's indecision, all the hotels in Norman (except for one $100+ option that is in the boonies) are booked for the OU game we are planning on going to with my whole family.

    Luckily for my mom, the University somehow found and comped my parents a hotel room in Norman along with 3 football tickets as this counts as my brother's "official visit." How nice for them.

    So DH and I had a choice of sharing a room with my parents and a sibling or two (no thanks), staying with my brother and his roommate in their tiny apartment (again, no thanks), or trying our luck in OKC. I have had great luck with Priceline in the past, so I was hoping we could get a good deal. I put in a bid of $55 and got arguably one of the nicest hotels in OKC, the Skirvin Hilton...sweet! So I went off to Google it and noticed the second Google result is "Skirvin Hotel Haunted."

    I don't do haunted hotels. I actively avoid them. I cannot watch horror movies and I always have been and always will be a complete weenie. I freely admit it. It's just who I am. I don't know really know what I believe about ghosts, etc. but the knowledge of any haunted rumors or tragic happenings is enough to make me uncomfortable enough to not want to stay overnight in a place.

    If it were your typical "lights flickering" "used to be a hospital" thing I could probably get over it. This particular story involves a young woman who jumped out of the window with her baby. Supposedly people hear the baby crying or her screaming and she likes to show up in your room or your bathroom while you're taking a shower. That just unnerves me as someone who is currently pregnant.

            Me: Hey mom, you and dad want to stay in the nicest hotel in OKC?
            Mom: NO. I read your email. You are ridiculous and need to get over your fears.
            Me: Well did you actually read the stories?
            Mom: googles Okay, nevermind. I wouldn't want to stay there either. That's legitimately creepy.

            It doesn't help that I now have a slight phobia of showers thanks to DH accidentally pulling a "psycho" on me earlier this year. I didn't know he was home. He stuck his face in between the curtain to "say hi" while my eyes were closed rinsing my hair. I about killed myself freaking out.

              Hmm...go. But bring plenty of rosaries and crucifixes. And a big jug of holy water.



              Or give the hotel room to your parents as a gift. They couldn't possibly turn down a gift, could they?

                I like this.
                Remember, you can always anoint the room/pray over it if you get uber uber creeped.
                ALSO -- I hear you about the shower thing. I was startled once while blow drying my hair (upside down) on the 2nd floor of my childhood home (Mom came home and no one else was there. She touched me. I didn't hear her until she was touching me and I was screaming in her face). I don't blow dry my hair home alone anymore.

                    Dude did the same goddamn thing to me a couple weeks ago. Good thing I was in the shower, because while bursting his eardrums with my epic screech, I piddled.

                          The problem is its a true phobia that has been a part of my life since...well, since I can remember! It was a real problem when I was younger and I still remember the feeling of being truly terrified. I wouldn't sleep in a room alone, wouldn't go into a dark bathroom or closet, refused to even drive through a cemetery, among other things. None of these things bother me now, but this particular situation still would. I wouldn't be able to get it out of my head and would just stay awake and be very uncomfortable all night. Which would totally suck after standing at a football game for 4 hours and fighting traffic to the hotel. I completely acknowledge that it is an irrational fear, but it's not one I'm really interested in trying to overcome right now

                          DH and my brother can stay there.

                            I also had the phobia you described. I wouldn't stay there either.

                              I don't think its necessarily irrational. It's not like you think you are going to be injured. But perhaps its cause I believe in ghosts/spirits and am terrified of them myself.
