      • Gorgeous sunny fall day today. Seemed around 65. Tomorrow we might get some flurries and the high is around 40 (you can currently hear panicked Tennesseans running out to clear the shelves of bread, lol).

          • It's supposed to freeze tomorrow night, but tomorrow will be busy, so I went ahead and picked my most promising looking tomatoes. There are so many cute little ones left to die. I think some of these are too young, but I'm hoping a few ripen!

            • It's 43* outside and this California native can't handle it. Just begged my husband to bring me coffee in bed.

              • We got a decent little dusting. Not sticking to the roads, so no real issue.

                • I realize I should have figured this out ages ago, but now we got a little snow and I'm curious... Does anybody know how the city of Pittsburgh/PENNDOT prevents the bridges from icing too badly and causing horrific accidents hundreds of feet above the rivers? I don't get the impression this is a city that goes out of its way to plow and salt the roads. I'm trying to Google it and when you put the words "Pittsburgh" and "ice" together you just get a lot of results about hockey. Just realized I'm a little more afraid of winter driving here than in MN...

First, I think it's AWESOME that you only see hockey results when you google ice and hockey.

Next, Pittsburgh does a decent job of keeping the main roads & bridges clear. It's the side roads you'll see sit with snow for a while. 28, 270, the parkway are all taken care of quickly. Bridges get heavy salt application.

Just keep milk, eggs, bread, and toilet paper well stocked through the winter and you'll be fine.

Thanks!!! I'm usually a pretty fearless winter driver, but the idea of ice on the bridges really freaks me out. Good to know they salt them well. The other day I was getting onto 579 S/Veterans Bridge and the entrance was basically just an elevated one-lane curve where your only view is just the road and open air -- no idea how high it is, no skyline for visual reference, going in a tight curve... it was panic-inducing. I've always been afraid of heights, but it probably didn't help that I was working in downtown Minneapolis when the I-35 W bridge across the Mississippi collapsed. Add ice, and *shudder*.

                              I'm quite happy, though.

                              • My dog is such a cold weather dog. It's 32 degrees and windy and as soon as I let her out she started literally bouncing around the yard and rolling in the frosty grass. She looked soooo happy. I swear she's part arctic fox.
