Public Rant/vent thread
She was playing with friends outside and fell. After 20 minutes of non-stop crying I decided to take her in for x-rays. Because there was no deformity and very little swelling, I didn't actually think it was broken.
The ED was busy and it took so long to get her into the xr suite that she actually fell asleep in my arms. But, it took 2 people to get her into position and hold her arm down so they could take the images.
I texted them to Chad and he said the same thing as the rad. She got splinted and we finally got home around 11.
The ex came and got DS at 10:30. I had called and left a vm at 8.Kris

I know. It really sucks for her. She is just so uncomfortable right now that she isn't sleeping well.
I need to figure out if C can still go on the trip with either my sister or parents, but each of them is already overloaded. It seems cruel to take S someplace where she won't be able to participate in any of the activities.Kris

I have to say I was not impressed with the ED at all...
There were a couple of cases rolling in right around the same time we walked in, which was part of the issue. The triage nurse was fantastic. He met us at the front desk and took us back to the intake room immediately. I'm pretty sure that the wailing my daughter produced while I was getting her registered helped move her right along in the process...
But, we never saw an MD at all, just a brand new NP. As in brand new to the hospital and brand new to being an NP. She obviously had NO ortho experience and was in way over her head.
I felt badly for the xr techs. I sat with S on my lap and a tech held her arm down in position while S screamed at the TOP of her lungs. The images were clear, so it worked. But, holy cow, I was tearing up by the time we left the xr room. I was so glad that S couldn't see my face.
But we sat for over 2 hours to get a splint put on and she didn't really know how to apply it. (Not that it is hard, but, really it would have been nice to have someone show her how to do it the first time.) And, we didn't get a script for pain meds, which would have been really nice so that I wasn't up with S every 3 hours last night.
The ex waited over 2 hours to return my call about being in the ED. He did come and take C to his house at 10:30, which helped a lot.
This morning I put a call into our ped to see if we can get a script for Tylenol #3 to tide us over until we meet with ortho on Monday morning.
S has requested a pink cast and I promised her that we would buy a set of markers to decorate the cast. This way she will be rockin' for the first day of school!
My parents will be taking C to the waterpark vacation and S and I will be staying home. She is devastated, but really, there is no other option. Poor kiddo. I foresee another pedicure for her.Kris

I just took DS to Academy to get his soccer stuff (shin guards, cleats, etc) for his first practice on Sunday. I'm feeling sad that DH missed it, and he won't be home on Sunday. I know he's missed lots of other things, and he will continue to, but sometimes it just randomly hits me harder than others. DH was the one who really wanted DS in soccer, and he's going to have to see it all through my iPhone camera.Laurie

I really wanted to go to a friends' baby's birthday party today, but hubby's off and wanted to go to my parents' house to go shooting with my dad. I love hanging out with my parents, but I'm sad about the missed opportunity to get to know friends better. He'd actually get to know them too if he would ever hang out with them.Allison - professor; wife to a urology attending; mom to baby girl E (11/13), baby boy C (2/16), and a spoiled cat; knitter and hoarder of yarn; photographer

Plus I'm so bored. I know he works hard all week and just wants to veg on the weekends, but I wish we could do something other than sit around all day. Sorry, grumpy today, apparently.Allison - professor; wife to a urology attending; mom to baby girl E (11/13), baby boy C (2/16), and a spoiled cat; knitter and hoarder of yarn; photographer
