I lived in men's Carhartt duck pants, or Gramicci canvas climbing pants, from about age 18-21. Loved how you could go kneel in the garden and get up not much the worse for wear. Then I got all fancy and grownup and spent a decade wearing relaxed fit Dockers khakis. This foray into fashion jeans (my mom has been buying them for me for a year or two) was an interesting experiment but I'm done now. Did you know Carhartt makes women's pants in nylon ripstop? I have some shorts that fit awesome and have plenty of pockets. I'm looking for pants with basically the same fit and fabric. Unfortunately fleece lined Carhartts, while super useful back home in Alaska, would have a season of about one week around here, LOL.

When we first moved the NE and entered the realm of attedinghood we went to Montreal and DH bought me a Louis Vuitton bag for $1700 which was pre-Canadian-sales-tax. After taxes it might have been around 5K. Go Canada!

It feels completely insane at this juncture of my life. The craziest thing I ever purchased was four kids. They make my Louis Vuitton bag look like a target clearance rack. I never in my wildest dreams imagined how much my kids would cost us...and we haven't even hit college.

[MENTION=1048]Ladybug[/MENTION], I assume that you don't keep your kids in your closet. But I do keep their out grown clothes. All together, that would cost more than any single item in my closet. ...except for maybe the wedding dress.

Have you checked out Duluth and Mountain Khakis? You know for some change? . I actually got a Duluth lined pant for the winter that is great for kneeling on the damp ground.

Yep, just the sort of thing I'm looking for. I wasn't familiar with them since I usually shop at REI or Sierra Trading Post. Thanks! I need to go from hiking to farmer's market to gardening to volunteering at the elementary school, and I need not to spend $100 on any single piece of clothing. >.<
