I'm already dreading the medical school Christmas party. Last year I came up with an excuse, but no such luck this year. Anyway, I'm considering these dresses (in black) as all I currently own are school clothes (i.e. jeans) and suits.

What do you think? Would either of these work for a more conservative law firm's X-mas party as well?

Well, I suppose we might be invited to the peds party. We definitely won't be invited to Adult neurology since the child neurologists aren't actually a part of the adult neurology program. If it's just the child neurologists....all three of them...I'm thinking it'll be beers at the brewery while the Colonel's wife plays with the toddlers (she's grand-child deficient and it's starting to get to her)

OOOOH, Vishenka!! What do you have?? I'll PM you!

My company's holiday party is Dec. 9th and I'm so sick of all my same old cocktail dresses. I bought some hot red shoes (I'll post pics tonight!!) and I think they would look nice with a black or red cocktail dress.

Thanks so much for the offer! I'm excited now!

I take pics of what I have and post them here. A lot of my stuff is too expensive for Salvation Army and so it's been hanging in my closet for the past few years.

Salvation Stella is open for business.

I also have some I can loan out in sizes 2-4 as well. I've just worn them to EVERYTHING and I'm sick of them.

The reason why I'm trying to get rid of my collection is that I haven't been that size in a couple of years now. Sigh. But if anyone has some 6-8 stuff, I'm game.

I have some very nice long dresses that are 6-8. I can't think of an event that I'd wear them to in the near (or far) future.

I have a great silk long dress that looks fantastic AND is as comfy as a nightgown.

This is totally off topic, but you guys should check out ebay for formal wear. I have gone totally off the deep end buying cute cocktail dresses that I am sure I will never wear. (If any of you guys need 0 or 2s, I have enough for an army of well-dressed ladies!!) I have bought Ann Taylor, Laundry, Lilly Pulitzer, Max Azaria, Talbots, and many other brands for $20 to $80!!!

As for the Xmas party, we didn't attend last year (DH intern year), as Dh was on call that night. However, we heard it was snoozeville, and one of the attendings was treating the interns like crap. So, to sum up, we most likely will NOT be attending.

I know parties can be lame, but DH's depts in residency, fellowship or attending have ever hosted holiday parties. The PD has a fall party every year at her house, but it is really lame. I wouldn't mind a holiday party for a change and an excuse to be social and get a babysitter.

Would you all pay? DH's party charges $50 for spouses and I REALLY don't want to pay the fifty bucks . . . on principle. I mean, isn't it enough I gave them my husband, now I have to give them fifty bucks on top of it. To be fair, it is at a pretty nice restaurant and they do pay for dh. What do you all think?

You may be able to put me into the pool for the size 6 end of those dresses. In the past, I have tended to wear dark red to any winter semiformal events to avoid getting lost in the sea of black dresses. But, Vishenka you are way more expert than I am so perhaps I should reconsider . . .

No, I wouldn't pay. The xmas party is for the resident and a guest so there is no charge. Until this last year, they charged the guest for the year-end graduation banquet. I wouldn't pay for that either unless it was the year DH was finishing.

We haven't gone to a holiday party in the past 3 years precisely because I refuse to pay $50 (the exact amount DH's program charges for spouses).

As for dress colors. I also have a bright red winter dress that I wore to 2 holiday parties specifically to stand out among the black crowd. But black works great too, especially if feeling frumpy or at loss as to what to wear. It's my standard go to color. But's it's also a known fact that NY'ers wear a lot more black than anyone else.

Yay! We are going this Friday to our Fall Social. I've never been to an official program event and I'm excited...hope it's not boring! I figure since this one is more casual, I'll see if I want to go to the Holiday party which is much more formal.
