      • So just to wrap this up...we survived! The nipple shield is very quickly on its way out and I'm starting not to hurt so much as she latches better and more easily. We also got laying down feeding mastered, which is awesome at nights (except she thinks it is her right to be constantly attached to me all night after the first waking, but that's a different story and the sleep is still worth it)

Updating for all of those ladies about to get to this stage...I hope it goes much more easily for you, but if it doesn't hopefully this is a little encouragement.

Now off to start that teething thread...

          • I'm so glad to hear! And so proud of you for being much more proactive about getting off the shield than I was! You're awesome!

            • That's great news ST, I've heard 6 weeks is usually a time when the corner is turned.

It really was. Things were getting a lot better at 5, but really turned around at 6

Yes that is what usually happens. If you are me it gets harder. I had an over active let down & O would choke & scream. I learned how to deal with it but it didn't get easy until he was about six months & big enough to handle the flow. We'd both be soaked after each feeding too.

                    • I'll remind you.
I told ST the same thing: about 6 weeks was the time I woke up one morning, sleep-deprived and nuts, but made coffee and smiled. "I think we're going to be okay."

And for WOHMs -- why THAT is the ideal time for short-term disability to end, I have NO clue. I was so tortured to return to work when everything was going so well (I went back at 8 wks).
