Ah, something to remember for when mine are bigger. The 2 yo can try to help, but there will be a trail of clothes from his room to the laundry room. Or he'll bring his box of clean undies instead of dirties. Or, you know, train tracks. We aren't there yet.

I started teaching them to collect the laundry when they were about 5yo, sorting at 6yo, folding towels and napkins at 7. My 9yo (who has some developmental delays) can load the machines on his own and knows my standard settings. He still needs some help with folding and I wouldn't trust him with pretreating stains or any laundry needing special attention. You aren't far from having helpers.
