I've been finding ways to fit my workouts and running in again since I got the puppy and finished my Tri and Army 10 miler. It's been hard because with SO's schedule, there leaves little time for me with the house and the dogs. But now that we have started (we as in I) crate training, and she is finally learning to pee outside, I am slowly making room in the schedule for me. My body is stuffed full of cookies and treats from the holiday, lack of good exertion, and freezing temps, that it's been more challenging than normally.

But so far I have been able to run several times this week and start feeling the soreness and a little mo-jo that comes with that feeling of exercise. My body just wasn't built to not run...when I don't...I ache.

As for the healthy eating, I remember this rule that I use for many things in my life. In moderation. It's hard to just go cold turkey or put yourself on a 5 day a week exercise plan if you have never done those things well. I remember to keep my goals in focus and work my way up to a workout schedule that I can maintain. Nothing more depressing than kicking yourself in the butt because you couldn't keep up 5 days a week right away, when if you had given yourself more realistic but challenging goals, you could have reached 5 days at a reasonable time. Same goes for food. I eat frequently and healthy. But I don't just say "no sugar, no candy no treats, no fat!" For me, I find that I can go a little while abiding by this mantra, and realize that when I give in and eat a cookie, I feel guilty. Why? For one cookie? What tends to happen for people is the binging on those forbidden foods, because we deprive ourselves. I think if you eat your healthy foods, reduce your calorie intake (if needed), you can have a cookie or a small piece of cake without guilt and in moderation. Just balancing is hard, but when you find that rhythm that works for you, you start feeling great, looking great, and having a lot more positive energy and outlook!

Good for you!!! It's so important us to make time for us. I know that all too well with the little people running around.

I think that's what I have to do - not beat myself up when I splurge a little. I just need to slowly but surely eliminate the crap from my life - and when I want to eat a piece of chocolate... I can eat a piece of chocolate you know? Great advice!

For those of you with a sweet tooth, check out Skinny Cow. I had a chocolate truffle bar tonight, and it was pure deliciousness at only 100 calories. The new dessert flavors of Extra gum are also great when you crave something sweet. Gosh, I sound like Bob from The Biggest Loser.

As far as working out goes, I'm still going strong. I know a lot of people say that working out in the morning is best because you get it out of the way and it helps kick-start your metabolism for the day. I tried that today instead of putting it off until late at night, and I don't think it worked so well for me. I kind of liked my routine of working out at night, taking a hot shower, and hopping into bed with a book. I slept much better that way. Now I'm all sore from sitting at a desk for the better part of the day, and I could use some stretching before bed.

        How's everyone else doing?

I have been to the gym 4 out of 5 days this week, including this morning when I went to my pilates class at 6am! That and the dogs have gotten 45-60 minute walks every day this week. I think my biggest problem is craving something sweet after dinner (I am going to go get some skinny cows today love them!) and alcohol. Not that I am boozing it up all the time but I like to have a glass of wine or two or a beer in the evenings and if I am serious about weight loss than I should cut those out for at least a week or two. It's just hard to break the habit of relaxing like that, guess I could try a cup of tea?

Great job MrsBrainSurgeon!! How's your pilates class going?? Yeah that's hard for me too, sweets! I don't think a glass of wine will hurt you, it's usually good for your health and has antioxidants! Alcohol for me is hard for performance, not persay calories. Wine has like 100 calories..so not a huge thing for 5 oz. Tea is great too...mind the sugar you add...but some nighty night tea may help you relax; or find a nice healthy sweet treat in the evenings...fiber fruit is always good like apples, bananas, figs etc..plus helps with digestion lol

I either ran or did power yoga for an hour every day this week and watched my calories--the scale moved down 2 lbs. Proof that I just need to move my butt!

                    AWESOME!

My scale is down 2 lbs too this week... i am pretty excited. Just a little closer attention to what I'm eating, and picking up the exercising.
I went to the gym today and walk/ran for 40 minutes. I am SO not a runner and probably should just stick to swimming... but perhaps doing more than one activity is a good idea?! It's going to be hard to drag myself back to the gym to do that again though! Baby steps right??

I NEVER NEVER thought I would say this, but I'm VERY tentatively considering going for the White Rock Marathon in December. All depends on how the 1/2 goes in March...but now it's out there!

Ha! You can't take it back now.

I went to Target last night to check out the C9 fitted pants that you posted about in another thread. I don't know why I was expecting more from Champion, but I guess they're OK. The thing that drives me nuts is that I had to try several pairs on, and the pant length varied even when the label said they were the exact same size. Really frustrating.

Actually at the store I went to they had Small/Med/Large/XL all in 3 different lengths--Medium/Short/Long. Maybe you just missed that part of the label?

Nope, I put two of the same size and same length back to back, and they were quite noticeably different lengths. Then I repeated it a few more times to make sure I wasn't losing my mind. Really strange. Oh well, they're workout pants. They'll do fine, but I'm really glad I didn't just grab a size without trying them on first.
