I've been finding ways to fit my workouts and running in again since I got the puppy and finished my Tri and Army 10 miler. It's been hard because with SO's schedule, there leaves little time for me with the house and the dogs. But now that we have started (we as in I) crate training, and she is finally learning to pee outside, I am slowly making room in the schedule for me. My body is stuffed full of cookies and treats from the holiday, lack of good exertion, and freezing temps, that it's been more challenging than normally.
But so far I have been able to run several times this week and start feeling the soreness and a little mo-jo that comes with that feeling of exercise. My body just wasn't built to not run...when I don't...I ache.
As for the healthy eating, I remember this rule that I use for many things in my life. In moderation. It's hard to just go cold turkey or put yourself on a 5 day a week exercise plan if you have never done those things well. I remember to keep my goals in focus and work my way up to a workout schedule that I can maintain. Nothing more depressing than kicking yourself in the butt because you couldn't keep up 5 days a week right away, when if you had given yourself more realistic but challenging goals, you could have reached 5 days at a reasonable time. Same goes for food. I eat frequently and healthy. But I don't just say "no sugar, no candy no treats, no fat!" For me, I find that I can go a little while abiding by this mantra, and realize that when I give in and eat a cookie, I feel guilty. Why? For one cookie? What tends to happen for people is the binging on those forbidden foods, because we deprive ourselves. I think if you eat your healthy foods, reduce your calorie intake (if needed), you can have a cookie or a small piece of cake without guilt and in moderation. Just balancing is hard, but when you find that rhythm that works for you, you start feeling great, looking great, and having a lot more positive energy and outlook!
